A fancy new boutique hotel-casino on the Strip wants its name all over the streets. Literally.
A county planning board will consider a request next week to name part of the service road between the Flamingo hotel-casino and The Vanderpump Hotel, formerly known as The Cromwell, as Vanderpump Lane.
The application to change the name is expected to be considered at the next public meeting of the Paradise Town Advisory Board on April 14.
According to the filing, the operating entity of the two properties, Caesars Entertainment, is requesting that the street name update coincide with Cromwell’s transition to The Vanderpump Hotel.
Should the request be granted, Vanderpump Lane would be wedged between Pinky’s by Vanderpump at the Flamingo and what will become The Vanderpump Hotel, which Caesars says will begin offering hotel stays this spring.
In support of their request, the applicants state that the section is privately owned and maintained, and “the naming will not affect surrounding uses or streets.”
However, celebrity naming requests may not make it through the planning and zoning process.
County Buildings Department appeals staff noted that the unnamed section of paved road “has the appearance of an alley rather than a street.” The department also said that “approving this street name change would leave a portion of the carriageway unnamed,” as it inconveniently ends at the Flamingo service area.
“The Las Vegas Valley Street Naming and Address Assignment Policy does not support the naming of a private driveway, therefore staff recommends denial,” the filing states.
