Jannik Sinner made history on Sunday at Hard Rock Stadium, completing the coveted Sunshine Double.
In a rain-interrupted final that tested patience as much as talent, the 24-year-old Italian dismantled Jiri Lehecka 6-4, 6-4 to claim his second Miami Open title.
With this victory, Sinner became the first man since Federer in 2017 to win both Indian Wells and Miami in the same season, and he did so without dropping a single set over the entire swing on the hard court. Full summary below.

Summary of the match
Jannik Sinner completed the 2026 Sunshine Double on Sunday by defeating Jiri Lehecka 6-4, 6-4 in the Miami Open final at Hard Rock Stadium.
The Italian became the first man since Roger Federer in 2017 to win both Indian Wells and Miami in the same season, achieving the feat without dropping a single set across the two tournaments.
Rain delayed the start by 90 minutes and interrupted play again early in the second set, but once underway, Sinner quickly forced his game.
He broke Lehecka in the Czech’s second service game of the opening set and never looked back. Lehecka, who had not been broken once in his five previous matches and had saved all nine break points he faced entering the final, tried to counter with aggressive baseline hits, frequent net attacks and serve-and-volley tactics.
He even created a 0/40 chance on Sinner’s serve, but the World No. 2 responded with five straight first serves to escape. Sinner was virtually flawless on his delivery in the first set, winning all 16 first-serve points.
In the second set, Lehecka produced a strong 4-4 service game until he missed a routine forehand approach at 30/30, giving Sinner the decisive break.
Sinner finished the match with two aces, extending his record streak to 34 straight sets won at the Masters 1000 level.
I thought Lehecka played a solid match and ran the right tactics to bother Sinner; blasting off the baseline and getting ahead, but couldn’t sustain the pressure against Sinner’s pristine serve and superior forehand-to-forehand control.
Sinner created 11 break points in total and stayed poised through the heavy, damp conditions and rain breaks.
With the win, Sinner improved to 19-2 on the season and closed the gap on world No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz to 1,190 points in the live rankings. Lehecka, in his maiden Masters 1000 final, will move to a career-high No. 14 on Monday.
Sinner was by far the best player during this hard-court swing, and while his baseline game has shown signs of spraying more balls and he’s fallen a little further back from his 2024-25 peak, his serve has reached new heights of precision and clutch performance. That weapon bailed him out of trouble several times and proved the difference in the final.
It means a lot to me. [Winning] Sunshine Double for the first time, it’s incredible. That’s something I never would have thought [to win] because it is difficult to achieve. We managed it somehow, so I’m very happy Sensing his gain.
On a personal level, Miami is definitely vying for the coveted title of worst Masters 1000 tournament, and when you pair it with someone like Sinner, who doesn’t really seem to get much support or enthusiasm from armchair fans, I didn’t find it to be a very interesting watch.
