Vocal powerhouse Sam Ryder has released ‘What’s The Buzz?’, the second recording from the highly anticipated West End Revival of Jesus Christ Superstar.
With lyrics by Tim Rice and music by Andrew Lloyd Webber, “What is The Buzz?” was recorded live to tape at the famous British Grove Studios. Filled with 70s influences, the song is driven by a funky bass line with deft guitar and synth solos, along with Sam’s striking vocals. “What is The Buzz?” was produced by Sam, Andrew Lloyd Webber and legendary Grammy Award winner Fraser T. Smith.
Of the new edition, Sam said: “It was a pleasure to produce this with Fraser and Andrew. I hope you can feel the attention to detail and the tribute paid to the legacy of this fascinating and legendary score. It means as much to us as it does to so many around the world. Next stop, London Palladium!”
“What is The Buzz?” follows the release of ‘Gethsemane’, which Sam recently performed live on Britain’s Got Talent. The show’s emotional climax, “Gethsemane” showcases Sam’s vocal acrobatics, passion and vulnerability as the iconic song demands.
Both songs give fans a glimpse of what to expect from the live production this summer, which opens at the London Palladium tomorrow night. Due to phenomenal demand, the London Palladium season has already broken box office records and has been extended for a limited 12-week run at the Theater Royal Drury Lane starting in October.
Sam will make his West End debut in the title role of Jesus, alongside Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Richard Armitage, Boy George, Layton Williams and Julian Clary who share the role of King Herod in the Palladium run.
He will return for the Theater Royal Drury Lane run, with Matt Bomer, Rob Brydon, Reece Shearsmith, Bob The Drag Queen, Michael Ball, Simon Russell Beale (rescheduled from The Palladium), Omid Djalili and Layton Williams who will share the role of King Herod. A final Herod for the final week of performances will be revealed in due course.
Jesus Christ Superstar plays The London Palladium for 11 weeks from Saturday 20 June to Saturday 5 September 2026 and will be extended by a limited 12-week engagement at the Theater Royal Drury Lane from Friday 16 October 2026 to Saturday 9 January 2027.
“What is The Buzz?” is now available on all digital platforms. The two brand new recordings, ‘What’s The Buzz’ and ‘Gethsemane’, have been pressed on striking white 10-inch vinyl, on sale from opening night on 7 July.
