Fresh from presenting his new album you seem quite sad for a girl who is so in loveeOlivia Rodrigo has released her lead single ‘drop dead’.
Produced by Dan Nigro and co-written with Amy Allen, “drop dead” is the perfect encapsulation of a girl in the early stages of love. Olivia sings about first crushes, including stalking your crush online and daydreaming about how wonderful their relationship could be. “The most alive I’ve ever been / But kiss me and I might drop dead!” she sings during the addictively dreamy chorus.
In true girlish style, Olivia also references astrology, singing “Pisces and a Gemini, but I think we could be really nice together”. Although these two signs are normally considered to have low compatibility, Olivia tries to ignore the preconceived notions about their relationship based on their star sign.
Describing the song on Instagram, Olivia said: “it’s the first chapter in the story of ‘you seem quite sad for a girl who is so in love‘ and it makes me want to jump around and roll down the windows and make out!”
‘drop dead’ comes with an accompanying music video directed by Petra Collins. The picture was shot in the Palace of Versailles and sees Olivia running from room to room in the iconic venue. She later rocks out on the guitar with two others before continuing her play outside the palace.

Just last night (April 18), Olivia surprised fans by joining Addison Rae on stage during her Coachella performance. Olivia joined in on vocals on Addison’s song “Headphones On” before asking the audience: “Coachella, how much do we love Miss Addison?”.
Addison responded, “Oh my god, I might just die,” leading to Olivia debuting her new single live.
‘drop dead’ is taken from Olivia’s upcoming third album you seem quite sad for a girl who is so in lovewhich is expected to be released on June 12. Ahead of the album’s release, she will be both host and musical guest on Saturday Night Live on May 2. Although Olivia has appeared on the show before, this will be her hosting debut.
