The former poker palace in North Las Vegas is expected to reopen as Club Fortune North in late June.
Reno-based Truckee Gaming bought the Poker Palace in October for $20 million and closed it to remodel the casino, which was originally expected to reopen in mid-April.
“The renovation ended up being almost a complete rebuild,” Truckee Gaming CEO Ferenc Szony said Tuesday. “It’s kind of like you get an old house and you say, ‘We’re just going to do the kitchen and the bathrooms,’ and the next thing you know, you’re doing a lot more.
“The project grew on us but I think it grew in a good way. It will really have a modern feel and look and will be dramatically different from what people remember the Poker Palace as, which was an older building that had been built on several times.”
The Poker Palace opened in 1974 on Las Vegas Boulevard North, near Nellis Air Force Base.
Truckee Gaming, which operates several casinos in northern Nevada and one in Henderson, also called Club Fortune, is making a big investment in the transformation of the Poker Palace. The plans include new slots and gaming systems, a redesigned bar, expanded restaurant and kitchen space, modernized restrooms and a complete exterior and interior remodel.
The renovated casino won’t have a poker room or table games, but it will have a racetrack and a sportsbook operated by Boomer’s Sportsbook.
“It’s a multi-million dollar renovation. It’s a big one,” Szony said. “It’s going to be nice. It’s going to be a nice, very modern quality product.
“It’s just taken us longer to get a lot of the work done and the larger scale. But it’s moving forward. We’ll definitely have it open and running by the end of June.”
Szony said Club Fortune North will have about 100 employees.
“We sent a note to all former employees (at Poker Palace) and they are given the first chance to return to the positions,” he said. “After that, we will fill the rest of the positions with open interviews.”
Club Fortune North is hiring full-time porter, guest service and food and beverage service positions with wages ranging from $13 to $17 per hour plus benefits. Group interviews will take place at the EmployNV Career Hub, located at 2827 Las Vegas Blvd. N. in North Las Vegas, on the following dates:
