Sony Pictures has unveiled a new trailer for Spider-Man: Brand New Daywhich offers fans their most comprehensive look yet Tom Holland’s return as Peter Parker. The long-awaited collaboration between Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios hits theaters on July 31.
Directed by Destin Daniel Crettonthe film picks up four years after the events of 2021 Spider-Man: No Way Homewhich ended with Peter Parker making the ultimate sacrifice: erasing himself from the memories of everyone he loves.
According to the official synopsis, Peter now lives a solitary existence, fully devoting himself to protecting New York City as Spider-Man while remaining virtually unknown to the people he saves. But as crime escalates across the city, the mounting pressure begins to trigger a mysterious physical transformation that threatens his survival.
Meanwhile, a new wave of criminal activity points to the rise of one of the most formidable adversaries Parker has ever faced.
Holland is joined by several familiar faces from the Spider-Man franchise, including Zendaya, Jakob Battle, Michael Mando, Jon Bernthaland Mark Ruffalo. The film also introduces a number of newcomers, with Sadie Sink, Tramell Tillman, Liza Colon-Zayasand Marvin Jones II join the Marvel Universe.
Footage previously shown to exhibitors at CinemaCon teased an emotional wrinkle for Peter’s journey, revealing that Zendaya’s MJ appears to have moved on with a new romantic partner — a painful reminder of the ramifications of Parker’s decision at the end of No way home.
The excitement surrounding the film has already translated into record numbers online. The film’s first trailer became the fastest movie trailer ever to surpass one billion views, reaching the milestone just four days after its release. Within the first 24 hours, the trailer generated more than 718 million views worldwide, underscoring the huge anticipation surrounding Holland’s next chapter as the iconic web slinger.
Speaking at CinemaCon, Sony Pictures chairman Tom Rothman praised the scope and ambition of the project.
“It’s as big as anything we’ve ever done, and yet it feels like nothing we’ve ever done,” Rothman said. “And it has Tom Holland – and I can say this because I’ve seen the film – in his finest performance.”
Spider-Man: Brand New Day is written by Chris McKennaa and Erik Sommerswith Amy Pascal and Kevin Feige act as producers.
