A couple has filed a discrimination lawsuit against The Strat, claiming they were kicked out of the property because of their gender and sexual orientation.
In the lawsuit filed March 10 in Clark County District Court, Brianne Garcia and Lelannie Dominguez claim they were escorted from the premises after being called “too affectionate” and being “abused” by a security guard.
They sue for negligence; battery; discrimination in a place of public accommodation; and negligent hiring, training, retention and supervision.
Golden Entertainment, owner and operator of The Strat, did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Trial details
Garcia and Dominguez were at a bar in The Strat on May 3, 2024, and “interacted with each other in an affectionate manner,” according to the lawsuit. There, a waitress approached the couple and asked them to stop, saying they were “too affectionate”.
The couple “felt they were singled out and treated differently based on their gender and sexual orientation,” the lawsuit said, challenging the waitress’ request.
According to the lawsuit, shortly thereafter, a manager approached the couple and asked them to leave the premises. Security personnel escorted the pair toward the elevator and one of the guards “behaved in an aggressive and confrontational manner,” the lawsuit alleges.
While in the elevator, the pair began recording the security guard and during the interaction they were “physically assaulted” by the guard, the lawsuit alleges.
