In an age where viral moments often eclipse genuine feelings, RED is carving its own lane – one defined by intention, intimacy and creative autonomy. The Scottish singer-songwriter, who first captivated audiences with stripped-down covers and soulful performances at lavish weddings across the world – many of which found a wider audience on TikTok – now confidently steps into her own history with the release of her latest single, ‘Slow Motion’.
The sweeping, deeply personal ballad draws from the quiet strength of her relationship with her husband – a grounding force amid the noise and unpredictability of her growing career. It’s a song that lingers in the moments in between, where love is not loud but steadfast, offering a sense of stillness in a chaotic world.
Co-written with friend and fellow player Tim Gallagherthe epic love song, marks a pivotal moment in Red’s development. No longer defined by reinterpretation, she continues her transition into a fully realized original artist, combining her powerful vocal delivery with songwriting that feels both diaristic and universal. With ‘Slow Motion’, she doesn’t just prove she can sing – she makes it clear she has something to say and a unique way to say it.
In an exclusive interview with ThePlayerLounge ahead of the single release, ‘Never’ the singer said of the song: “‘Slow Motion’ is a song about my relationship with my husband, our story and how much his love and support means to me.”
“We live in such a chaotic world, where so much of what happens is out of our control…life comes at us fast, doesn’t it? And I sometimes struggle to deal with that. But when I’m feeling anxious or going through a hard time, he’s the person who talks me down and reminds me of what’s really important. He gives me that version of myself and I have hopes for myself so that I can be their best in life. He’s the best.”
Elaborating further on the song’s lyrical concept, she adds: “When I first came up with the idea for the song, I imagined those classic romantic movie moments – where the two main characters finally admit that they’re completely in love. Everything around them speeds up, emphasizing the chaos of the world they’re in, but between them, time feels slow and still within each other, because they’ve been in peace.”
“I co-wrote it with Tim Gallagher who is a dear friend and an incredible artist in his own right! He and I both experienced walking “viral” around the same time, and so we tied it up (laughing). I am so inspired by his music and the way he manages his career – he is an amazing talent!”
After the release of ‘Slow Motion’Red are set to embark on their first ever UK headline tour next month. The run begins at London’s Hoxton Hall on May 10, before the 2025 ThePlayerLounge Award winners head to Manchester, Glasgow and Cardiff for a series of intimate live dates.
