Jannik Sinner launched his bid for a first Monte-Carlo title (and potentially the world No. 1 ranking) in ruthless fashion, crushing Ugo Humbert 6-3 6-0.

The Italian dropped just six points in the second set, extending his record streak of consecutive Masters 1000 sets.

After completing the Sunshine Double without dropping a set, Sinner looked all set on clay. He then faces Francisco Cerundolo or Tomas Machac.

In what was likely to be Gael Monfil’s last match at Monte-Carlo (his 13th appearance), the 39-year-old French wildcard fell in straight sets to eighth-seeded Alexander Bublik. Monfils received warm applause from the home crowd as he bowed out of the tournament he loves.

Matteo Berrettini (WC) def. Roberto Bautista Agut (LL) 4-0 ret.

Matteo Berrettini got a fortunate but much-needed win as Roberto Bautista Agut pulled one back to make it 4-0 after just 23 minutes. The Italian wild card, who has battled injuries in recent years, now faces a crucial second-round match against seventh seed Daniil Medvedev. A loss here could see him fall outside the top 100 for the first time since April 2024.
