Day 5 of the 2026 Miami Open produced a major shock at Hard Rock Stadium with the early exit of World No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz.

Sebastian Korda (32) def. Carlos Alcaraz (1) 6-3, 5-7, 6-4

The biggest shock of the tournament was Seb Korda taking out world No. 1 in a 2hr 19min thriller, marking his first victory over a world No. 1 and the lowest-ranked player (No. 36) to beat Alcaraz since David Goffin (No. 55) in Miami last year.

Korda dominated early (75% first serve in, 5 aces in set 1), but faltered when serving for the match at 5-4 in the second, dropping five straight games to Alcaraz. He regrouped brilliantly in the decider with clean ball hitting and composure.

Korda called it a “scenic path” win after soul-searching and new coaching input (Ryan Harrison). This ends Alcaraz’s 16-0 start to 2026 (now 17-2), opening the door for Jannik Sinner in the No. 1 race.

The American has always been able to hit a very clean ball from both wings, but he has had a lot of problems with his wrist, so his tennis has been quite stop-start. However, he has played six tournaments in a row in the US and played a great match.

Alcaraz didn’t play badly; he just wasn’t at his best, and Korda’s flatter strokes work well in those conditions.

Arthur Fils (28) def. Stefanos Tsitsipas 6-0, 6-1

A masterclass as Fils obliterated Tsitsipas in just 55 minutes, winning 89% of first-serve points, saving both break points and forcing 28 unforced errors from the Greek. Fils called it “one of the best games I’ve ever played” and declared himself “all the way back” after a back injury ended his 2025 season.

He improved to 5-0 H2H vs Tsitsipas, which highlights how much H2H matters in tennis. Tstitsipas has been miserable for over a year now, but he easily took out Top 10 De Minaur in the previous round (11-1 H2H), only to be destroyed by Fils, who has a perfect record against him.

Milestone for the 20-year-old Spaniard as Landaluce reached his first ATP Masters 1000 fourth round with authority, hitting 25 winners to Khachanov’s 12 and winning 78% of first-serve points in 1 hour 32 minutes.

Valentin Vacherot (24) def. Matteo Berrettini 7-6(5), 6-4. The Monegasque (2025 Shanghai champion) took his 10th win in 2026 and reached R16 in three of his last four Masters 1000s.
