Sinner ended Rafael Jodar’s impressive home run with a professional performance under the roof of Manolo Santana Stadium.
Meanwhile, Arthur Fils continued his excellent clay season by defeating Jiří Lehečka to reach his first Masters 1000 semi-final.

Jannik Sinner put an end to Rafael Jodar’s impressive home run with a straight sets professional victory in the quarterfinals.
Playing in front of a packed and passionate crowd at the Manolo Santana Stadium, the 19-year-old Spanish wildcard showed why he has been one of the stories of the clay season, but ultimately Sinners’ grip proved the difference.
Jodar started brightly, hitting some explosive forehand winners and matching Sinner’s intensity early on.
However, Sinner gradually took control of the first set with his trademark consistency and superior baseline play, winning it 6-2.
In the second set, Jodar raised his level again and pushed Sinner hard, creating several break points. The world number 1 saved all seven break points he faced in the match (five in the second set alone) and showed his experience and mental strength by dominating the tiebreak 7-0.
Sinner described the match as “very high quality” and admitted that Jodar “pushed me to the limit”, but I thought he was always in control.
In fact, I’d say he hasn’t even played that well in Madrid, but has been able to deliver at the right moment and brings his best stuff when needed.
Jodar now has to deal with all the hype surrounding him as the media is desperate for another ‘Big Three’ so it will be interesting to see how his form continues

Arthur Fils continued his red-hot form by reaching his first Masters 1000 semi-final at the 2026 Mutua Madrid Open, defeating Jiří Lehečka in straight sets.
The 21-year-old Frenchman was in control for most of the match, using his heavy groundstrokes and standing close to the baseline to dictate play.
He was particularly impressive on serve, not facing a single break point throughout the 74-minute contest. In fact, he didn’t even have to contend with a single deuce on serve.
This win extends the Phil’s winning streak to nine games in a row. With this result, Fils improves to No. 17 in the live rankings and sits at 22-5 on the season since returning from an eight-month layoff.
He has now won the Barcelona title and reached the Madrid semi-finals in quick succession. He faces world No. 1 Jannik Sinner in the semifinals on Friday.
I think he can give Sinner a test, but can he win? I’m not sure, but without Alcaraz around, you’d have to say Fils is probably the third best player at the moment behind Sinner and Zverev. Novak too of course, but he doesn’t really play.
