Kenan Thompson’s co-founded production company, Artists for Artists, has been named in a California lawsuit over an investment dispute involving more than $583,000.
According to the complaint filed in the Superior Court of California, County of Los Angeles, Shwin Productions LLC is suing Artists for Artists DE LLC and CEO John Ryan Jr. for alleged breaches of a binding investment agreement.
The lawsuit alleges that Shwin Productions entered into the agreement with Artists for Artists in August 2025 and later invested more than $583,000 in the company.
Shwin Productions alleges that Artists for Artists failed to provide financial statements, project accounting, information on cross-border tables, member reports and other financial records that they claim were required under the agreement.
The complaint also points to the television project Good sport. According to the filing, Shwin Productions claims that Artists for Artists generated revenue from projects developed during the investment period, inclusive Good sportbut failed to distribute revenue shares it claims were required under the agreement.
The plaintiff estimates that at least $240,000 may be owed in connection with Good sportwhile the full amount cannot be determined without a full accounting of the company’s records.
The suit also alleges that statements made during financial disclosure disputes damaged business relationships and potential entertainment investment opportunities. According to the complaint, these opportunities included discussions involving individuals and opportunities associated with Range Media Partners and other companies in the entertainment industry.
The complaint asserts claims for breach of contract, accounting, breach of the implied covenant of good faith and fair dealing, defamation and intentional interference with potential economic benefits.
Shwin Productions is seeking damages, recovery of alleged unpaid revenue shares, a court-ordered accounting related to the investment, and other relief to be determined by the court.
Thompson is not named as a defendant in the lawsuit. The complaint names Artists for Artists DE LLC and John Ryan Jr. as defendant.
The case was filed under Case No. 26VECV03619 in the Superior Court of California, County of Los Angeles.
The defendants have not yet filed an answer with the court, and the court has not made any findings on the merits of the claims.
