Demi Lovato releases Deluxe Edition of her latest album

After releasing tour favorite “Low Rise Jeans” as the first musical appetizer last week, Grammy-nominated global superstar Demi Lovato returns this Friday with seven more new songs. Together, they form the deluxe edition of Lovato’s ninth studio album, titled “It’s Not That Deep (Unless You Want It To Be),” a playful nod to the lyrics of the standard album’s opener “Fast“.

The deluxe disc includes both old fan favorites – made available for the first time on streaming – some remasters, as well as four previously unreleased tracks. They feel like an organic expansion to the already strong original material and are, dare we say, almost even better? Find out our thoughts below:

Deluxe starts with “Low-cut jeans“, which first got fans excited when Demi performed the song on opening night for her It is not the deep tour in Orlando. It’s a clever nod to Britney Spears from the early 2000s, along with several references to iconic low-cut clothing.

Track 2, enough title “Love Controls”sees the singer venture into disco territory. Thanks to an array of heavenly synths, a great Jessie Ware co-write and some vocals that really are vocals, Demi soars to new heights.

A standout of the deluxe, in our opinion, is the next one. “Fantasy” has been highly anticipated online, having first been released as a digital solo track for a limited time. It’s sexy, seductive and has a drop that’s a fantasy come true. The album version features a fresh second verse and some additional ad-libs by Swedish singer Cobrah (“Brand New Bitch”, “Good Puss”), very subtle innuendos, as well as some new production elements towards the end of the song. We’re sure this will get your blood pumping whole body pumping.

Demi continues in an equally sexy spirit “Confetti”a song filled to the brim with a myriad of playful puns that make a very NSWF subject almost SFW. Let us warn you that this song is not actually about confetti. It’s another 10/10 not only because of Demi’s sharp and eyebrow raising lyrics but also because of the insane beat drop and Demi’s vocal performance.

Next is a remix of “The Joshua Tree”the original of which was first released as a vinyl-exclusive bonus track and then added to the “A Little Bit Extra” version on streaming. This new version sees Lovato team up with British pop star Rose Gray for the first time. The latter adds some fresh vocals to the bouncy dance-pop track that’s about wanting to make new memories while traveling (*wink wink*).

Demi continues to fantasize on track 6, titled “After hours“, but this time about less steamy and more romantic stuff. It’s a very sweet little song that combines a trippy beat with a dreamy instrumental. A much needed break from the nonstop clubbing.

“Nothing on but the lights” sees Demi teaming up with MNEK and Margo XS again – both of which are currently very well known for having worked on Zara Larsson’s “Midnattssol” together. With glitchy vocals and over even glitterier drums, Demi contemplates letting go of her insecurities (and her clothes).

As if all these highlights weren’t enough, Demi Lovato decided to add “Pretty catatonic” to the list of things. It’s the perfect closer and transition to the original record.”I get pretty catatonic every time you go“, she cries in this dance-pop anthem about not wanting your partner to leave, even if it’s just for a few days. For “Pretty Catatonic,” Demi enlisted the help of Julia Michaels. And while the lyrics deal with the singer’s anxiety about her abandonment issues, the upbeat production of her new production elevates the song.

As you can see: It’s really not that deep (unless you want it to be). If you get it, you get it.
