Eight King Herods have been announced for the upcoming autumn Theater Royal Drury Lane Jesus Christ Superstar.
Golden Globe-winning actor and Emmy-nominated star of Fellow travelers Matt Bomer will play the role from October 16-31, med Gavin and Stacey star Rob Brydon takes office November 2-7. Inside No. 9 co-creator Reece Shearsmith will be Herod from November 9-14, drawing royalty Bob The Drag Queen starring from November 16-21, and musical legend Michael Ball from 23 November to 5 December.
Simon Russell Beale will now play December 7-12 (re-booked from the London Palladium run) while being a comedian Omid Djalili will play the role December 14-19. Theater icon Layton Williams will do double duty and return as Herod from December 21 to January 2, 2027 after his two-week stay at the Palladium. A final Herod for the final week of performances will be revealed in due course.
Jesus Christ Superstar opens at The London Palladium tomorrow night, with the singer-songwriter Sam Ryder plays the lead role of Jesus. He will appear alongside Desmonda Cathabel as Mary Magdalene, David Thaxton as Pontius Pilate, Bob Harms as Caiaphas, Matty J as Annas and Phil King as Peter.
Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Richard Armitage, Boy George, Layton Williams and Julian Clary will share the role of King Herod during the Palladium run.
Ahead of the West End opening, tapings of both “Gethsemane” and “What’s The Buzz?” has been released, giving fans a taste of what to expect from this highly anticipated production.
Jesus Christ Superstar plays The London Palladium for 11 weeks from Saturday 20 June to Saturday 5 September 2026 and will be extended by a limited 12-week engagement at the Theater Royal Drury Lane from Friday 16 October 2026 to Saturday 9 January 2027.
