Wimbledon 2025 Day Five Recap

Day five on Wimbledon served another help from grassbunga tennis when the third round began. Carlos Alcaraz extended his winning line to 21 matches with a tough four-set victory over Jan-Lennard Stuff, while Taylor Fritz pushed past Alejandro Davidovich Fokina to reach the second week for the third time.

Cameron Norrie continued to carry British hope, Andrey Rublev looked sharp, and Nicolas Jarry backed up his rune upset over another strong show. And for the first time all week, each match was completed on the schedule in time, without rain or fading light that caused delays – a welcome change after several days of suspended game.

With the lower half of the draw that stabilizes somewhat after a chaotic opening a few rounds, the eyes now turn to who can come out of the packaging and if players like Fritz can take advantage of making the semi -finals, or one of the outsiders can make a Vladimir Voltchkov.

Here is everything that happened on day five on SW19.

Fritz Folier Fokina

Fritz WimbledonFritz Wimbledon

Fifth seed Taylor Fritz escaped another five-sets on Friday and saw by Alejandro Davidovich Fokina 6-4, 6-3, 6-7 (5), 6-1 to reach Wimbledon’s fourth round.

Usually we see the Spaniard dive around the grass tracks, but it was Fritz who reflected Fokinas tumbler around the net, and he needed two medical timeouts, one for a cut elbow after a failed hunt for a drip shot in the second set and another for a foot blowing.

Although he lost a tight third set of tiebreak after failing to serve the match at 5-3, Fritz regained and broke early in the fourth to secure it three hours, 12-minute victory.

Fritz has played well so far at Wimbledon. He is best known for the typical American service + pre -combo, but he is a decent moveor for his height, and maybe he doesn’t look as smooth as, say, Alcaraz, but he reaches many balls out there.

It gets pretty annoying to have to stop all the time. I feel bad for my opponent when I keep stopping all the time, but you can only do it on grass. I’m just really determined to get some of these balls, and eventually I will win one of these points. Fritz on his diving rolls.

Alcaraz slides past the struff

Alcaraz WimbledonAlcaraz Wimbledon

Carlos Alcaraz is up to a victory with 21 matches after fighting past Jan-Lennard Struff 6-1, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 to make the fourth round of Wimbledon.

Alcaraz has not had it all the way so far on SW19, and he met a strict challenge from Struff’s powerful game but prevailed in two hours and 25 minutes.

Alcaraz dominated the first set and broke twice with aggressive previews and deep returns, but vacated in the second, when he wobbled on the service.

He regained control and released a lot of variation in the third and fourth sets, and Hans Wimbledon so far reminds something of Federer in 2010. It does not end well, but Fed had a thigh-stem that year, so if Carlos can cut out the past that Echo Fighters have seen in his five-set against Fabio.

I suffered in every service game I did today. Love 30, Break is pointing down. It was stressful. He continued to push me. I survived type and I am really glad I got the break and it was done. I knew in the beginning that it would be really difficult. That I would have to be really focused on every shot and on my service games and return. I think his game fits pretty well with the grass. Large serving. Approaching the net as much as he can. I am really happy with everything I have done today. Fight, run, make amazing pictures. I tried to do the opportunities he gave me in the match and I’m just proud of how I won in four sets. Alcaraz on his win.

Cameron Norrie Def. Mattia Bellucci 7-5, 6-7 (4), 7-6 (4), 6-3

Cameron Norrie kept British jumps alive on Friday and defeated Mattia Bellucci 7-5, 6-7 (4), 7-6 (4), 6-3 to reach the fourth round for just the second time in his career.

All the call that led to the tournament was of Draper, but Norrie is allowed to fly the flag, and he has an admirable attitude to all his matches and refuses to roll over even when he is played.

Here, the weather out early breaks and leaned to the court a public support to secure a crucial break in the fourth set and closed the match after a competitive three hour battle.

Andrey rubled Def. Adrian Mannarino 6-4, 6-2, 6-4

The 14th seed Andrey Rubev drove into Wimbledon third round with a 6-4, 6-2, 6-4 victory over Adrian Mannarino.

The Russian, who reached the quarter finals in 2023, showed his clean ball that hit a potential banana skin, because Mannarino has plenty of grassy experiences, but the Frenchman could not counteract Ruflev’s crime.

Nicolas Jarry Def. Joao Fonseca 6-3, 6-4, 3-6, 7-6 (4)

The Chilean qualifier Nicolas Jarry took out Brazilian João Fonseca 6-3, 6-4, 3-6, 7-6 (4) on court 12 and the victory puts him back in the top 100.

Jarry, who qualified with three straight wins and upset eighth seed Rune in the first round (4-6, 4-5, 7-5, 6-3, 6-4), used his powerful service to dominate early and break Fonseca with the baseline aggression.

Fonseca, who made its Wimbledon debut, struggled back to take the third set with his swing-ho forehand, but Jarry looked stronger physically during the two-hour, 45-minute match to record the victory.

Fonseca is explosive, and making the third round at its first Wimbledon is impressive. If he can fine -tune his movement on the surface rather than trying to move on as a clay court, his game will be very dangerous. Can it be learned? Maybe, but the best grass court players seem intuitively knowing that small steps jump around the ball are where it is on.
