Inter Miami hosted the New York Red Bulls on Saturday when they returned to MLS Play after an exit from Midweek from the Concacaf Champions Cup. The Hägarna bounced back in the style of dominant performance, highlighted by a fantastic goal from Lionel Messi during the second half to seal a victory 4-1.
The home team started quickly at Chase Stadium. In the ninth minute, Marcelo Weigandt intercepted a pass and quickly delivered a cross into the box. Luis Suárez led it perfectly for Fafa Picault, who hit it home to give Miami an early lead. Just minutes later, Picault turned supplier and set Weigandt for the second goal with a well -placed cross.
Inter Miami extended its lead in the 39th minute when Suárez found the back of the net and ended his latest scorer with a finish on a rebound. Although Red Bulls ahead Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting drew one back in the 43rd to do it 3-1, visitors struggled to match Miami’s intensity.
In the 67th minute Messi covered the night with a moment of shine. After a slick exchange with Telrasco Segovia with back-to-back one-two, the Argentine legend shot a first volley past Carlos Coronel, which left the goalkeeper no chance and sealed a statement for the hedges.
