Day six of the United States Open brought more turns to men’s features when Novak Djokovic produced its sharpest show of two weeks to beat Cameron Norrie, while Carlos Alcaraz competed past Luciano Dari despite a short knee scare.
Ben Shelton’s campaign ended in Heartbreak when he retired after the fourth set against Adrian Mannarino, and Frances Tiefoe also bent, upset by the qualifying Jan-Lennard Stuff, who continues his impressive driving.
Elsewhere, Taylor Fritz survived another string test against Jerome Kym, and Jiri Lehecka, Tomas Machac and Arthur Rinderknech advanced all.

Today’s summary

Novak Djokovic Def. Cameron Norrie, 6-4, 6-7 (4), 6-2, 6-3
Novak Djokovic delivered its sharpest performance yet and defeated Cameron Norrie 6-4, 6-7 (4), 6-2, 6-3.
Norrie never has a good time against Novak (0-6 h2h), and the seventh seed fired 18 aces and 51 winners. He was particularly sharp in the opening set and released only two points on the service.
However, it was not quite ordinary sailing, as he needed a medical timeout for his lower back, which seemed to affect his level. But he regrouped in sets three and four to close it without too many problems.
Djokovic meets Jan-Lennard Struff Next, which he has an equally impressive 7-0 h2h against. I am a big fan of Struff’s game and I think he has a chance if Novak is not physically, but even at 75-80% I think Djoker has the edge.
Taylor Fritz Def. Jerome Kym, 7-6 (3), 6-7 (9), 6-4, 6-4
Taylor Fritz fought past the qualifier Jerome KYM 7-6 (3), 6-7 (9), 6-4, 6-4. Fritz has been pressed into four sets in his last two matches, but he struggles hard and, even more important, earns well, shoots 20 aces and loses serves only once (when he leads 4-1 in the fourth) on a two-hour 58-minute collision.
He meets the next Tomas Machac, who plays some super good ball. Machac’s top level is up there with the very best, but maintaining it seems physically being a problem for him, so we will see how he handles Fritz on Monday.
Adrian Mannarino Def. Ben Shelton, 6-3, 3-6, 6-4, 4-6 (ret.)
Adrian Mannarino advanced when the sixth seed Ben Shelton retired with the score of 6-3, 3-6, 6-4, 4-6, with reference to “the worst pain” in his left shoulder.
The Frenchman forced Shelton into the cruel baseline meetings and won 73% of the first serving points in a three -hour, seven -minute battle, and his season has completely turned in recent months after a slow start that looked him release from 100.
From what I saw, Shelton would probably have edged this if he had been in shape; He won 90% of the service points in the opening set, but as the match continued, it fell.
Jan-Lennard Striile Def. Francies Ticeafe, 6-4, 6-3, 7-6 (7)
Jan-Lennard Stuff upset 17th seed Frances Tiefoe 6-4, 6-3, 7-6 (7) to equal its best big results.
The German qualification saved a stock market value in Tiebreak after failing to serve the match at 5-3 and won 80% of first servant points.
I always like to watch Stuff -play, because he has a huge game, serves and rolls and plays pedal for the metal. It is a bit surprising that his results have been so bad lately, but in New York he has found the right formula.
Carlos Alcaraz Def. Luciano Däri, 6-2, 6-4, 6-0
Carlos Alcaraz overcame a mid-match wobble to crush Luciano Däri 6-2, 6-4, 6-0.
The second seed, broken at 4-1 in the second set, took a medical timeout for its right knee but rolled off seven straight matches from there because Dardieri could not handle his forehand.
Is the knee a problem? He says no but I guess we will see in his next match.
