Today’s summary

sins us opensins us open

Jannik Sinner Def. Alexei Popyrin, 6-3, 6-2, 6-2

Jannik Sinner demolished Alexei Popyrin 6-3, 6-2, 6-2 to continue his hitherto flawless driving. The world no. 1 converted five out of nine breaking points and saved all five faces and dominated the baseline in a two -hour, one minute route at Arthur Ashe Stadium.

It is almost pointless to see the sinner play the early rounds because no one can really compete. He meets Denis Shapovalov next and beats 0-1 in their head-to-head, but I expect him to level as one on Saturday.

It was a very, very solid performance. I felt that we both did not serve so well today, so we had many rally from the back of the court, where today I felt quite comfortable. Of course, I am very happy to be in the next round. Sinners on their winnings.

Andrey rubled Def. Tristan Boyer, 6-4, 6-3, 5-7, 7-6 (4)

Andrey Rublev fought past Wildcard Tristan Boyer 6-4, 6-3, 5-7, 7-6 (4)/ 15th seed won 78% of first service points in a two-hour, 45-minute collision.

I think the ruble we saw earlier this season would have been drawn to a fifth set in this match or even lost it, but he plays smarter lately.

Alexander Zverev Def. Jacob Fearnley, 6-4, 6-4, 6-4

Alexander Zverev sent Jacob Fearnley 6-4, 6-4, 6-4, and stayed on the course for his virgin big title. The third seed converted five of 14 break points and dressed the victory at its sixth match point in two hours and 28 minutes.

Decent things from German so far, and he needs a sludge where his path is to top on the back of the second week rather than in the first.

Daniel Altmaier Def. Stefanos Tsitsipas, 7-6 (5), 1-6, 4-6, 6-3, 7-5

Daniel Altmaier took down the 26th seed Stefano’s Tsitsipas 7-6 (5), 1-6, 4-6, 6-3, 7-5, which saves a match point of 4-5, 30/40 in the fifth.

German earned and volleyded 28 times (14 in the fifth), broke twice late and won 75% of the first serving points.

Normally you would say that it is a bad loss for the Greek, because Altmaier is more a clay court, but Stefanos is bad out of shape, so even getting past the round is exceeding expectations.

Kamil Majchrzak Def. Karen Khachanov, 2-6, 6-7 (4), 6-4, 7-5, 7-6 (5)

Qualifier Kamil Majchrzak stunned the ninth seed Karen Khachanov 2-6, 6-7 (4), 6-4, 7-5, 7-6 (5) to achieve a careful result.

Poland was clinical in sets of four and five and converted the only breaking points he earned in each to get the job done.

I got Khachanov to win this one, but Majchrzak is underestimated and has produced some very solid challenger results after his return from his doping suspension (yes, some players get them).
