After nearly two decades of public disputes, re -recordings and unmatched fan supports, Taylor Swift have officially regained ownership of her first Six studio albums. In a powerful and emotional statement published for her WebsiteThe global pop icon announced that she has successfully bought the rights for her master’s recordings from the private equity company Shamrock Capital.
“All the music I have ever made now belongs to me,” Swift wrote. “I’ve been bursting into tears of joy ever since I found out that this is really happening.”
The announcement provides a triumphant end to one of modern music historical most profiled and controversial Artist signs conflicts. It started in 2019, when Music Manager Scooter Braun acquired Big Machine Label Group, Swift’s previous label and with that champions to her album Taylor SwiftThe FearlessThe Talk nowThe REDThe 1989and Reputation. The acquisition blinded Swift, who said she was not given the opportunity to buy her catalog and described Braun’s commitment as her “worst case.”
The fall was fast [no pun intended] And very publicly. Fast accused Braun, then chief of Kanye West and Justin BiePrays, to enable “manipulative bullying” and exploit her life’s work without her consent. When Braun sold the directory to Shamrock Capital 2020 for a reported $ 300 millionExpressed Swift again upset and explained that Braun would continue to benefit from her music under the conditions of the deal – something she could not accept.
In response, Swift began a bold and outstanding campaign: She began to record all her early discography and recover ownership and control by releasing updated versions known as “Taylor’s versions.” Each edition – Fearless (Taylor’s version), Red (Taylor’s version), Speak Now (Taylor’s version) and 1989 (Taylor’s version) – met critical and commercial praise. She improved the originals with unreleased “vault” tracks, which gave the fans even more reason to support her new versions and reduce the value of the old champions.
In his latest statement, Swift described the way to regain its catalog for so long, exhausting and sometimes seemingly hopeless. “I almost stopped thinking that it could ever happen, after 20 years because carrot dangled and passed away,” she wrote. “But that’s all before.”
Swift confirmed that while the re -recording of reputation and her self -titled debut has not yet been released, she is still planning to go through them, but now with a different way of thinking. “These two albums may still have their moments to show up when the time is right. But if that happens, it won’t be from a place of sadness and longing for what I wish I could have. It will only be a party now.”
