2025 Shanghai Rolex Masters is here, and a packed draw gathers all the best guys who started their Asian oscillation in either Beijing or Tokyo.
The defendant champion Jannik Sinner Sinner Snabri field together with Carlos Alcaraz, Novak Djokovic, Alexander Zverev, Taylor Fritz and a number of rising stars that are anxious to make their mark.
With a 96 player and a price pool north of $ 9 million, the efforts are soaring. Alcaraz enters a burning form after a title -filled summer, while Djokovic returns to Shanghai, which chases a fifth penny and the chance to remind the tour in his lasting dominance. In the meantime, Sinner looks to continue his hardship court and become the first man since Djokovic 2013 to defend the Shanghai title.
Add dangerous fleets such as Ben Shelton, Holger Rune, local favorites such as Yibing and Zhang Zhizhen and a joke sign for Stan Wawrinka, the 2025 edition should be good.
Whether it is enough to overcome the problem with two weeks of Masters 1000 events and a Monday final is unlikely but we will see.

Thoughts on the draw

Top district
Seeded players: (1) Carlos Alcaraz, (7) Alex de Minaur, (9) Karen Khachanov, (16) Daniil Medvedev, (18) Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, (24) Stefanos Tsitsipas, (29) Brandon Nakashima, (30) Carrriye
Projected quarter final: Carlos Alcaraz against Alex de Minaur
Carlos Alcaraz, who lands in the upper half of the draw, has been the dominant strength of the tour since April, collected seven titles from nine finals, including Roland Garros, US Open, Three Masters 1000 Crowns and last week’s Tokyo 500.
This is the new Alcaraz, who has produced a level of texture that we have not seen from him before, and he is the man to beat in Shanghai.
His campaign starts against either American teenager Tien or Miomir Kecmanovic. Tien, the highest ranked teenager on the tour, has an interesting playing style, but you can’t see him being able to handle how Carlos strikes his advance lately.
A potential third round with Cameron Norrie looms, where Alcaraz has a leading 5-2 head-to-head.
The fourth round could see Daniil Medvedev, whom Alcaraz has beaten in his last four meetings, which led their rivalry 6-2.
The quarter final projects a matchup with Alex de Minaur, but Aussie is facing a gap to get there and navigate past Brandon Nakashima, Stefanos Tsitsipas or Karen Khachanov.
The Minurs 0-4 records against Alcaraz do not inspire confidence in an upset, especially considering the Spaniard’s current form and the only thing you can see that his campaign is his packed schedule and Ankelniggle maintained in Tokyo that captures him.
It looked bad at that time, but apart from the odd grimace and reduced slipping to the left, it has not seemed too big a problem.
Second quarter
Seeded players: (3) Alexander Zverev, (8) Lorenzo Musetti, (12) Felix Auger-Aliasime, (15) Jiri Lehecka, (17) Jakub Menik, (23) Denis Shapovalov, (26) Luciano Dardeni, (28) Alex Michelsen
Projected quarter final: Alexander Zverev vs. Lorenzo Musetti
Alexander Zverev began in 2025 with high expectations after his runner at the Australian Open, but the German has not yet reached another major or Masters 1000 final this year.
In fact, he has only sought two top-10 victories this season; Has the balls been used on the tour contributed to his difficulties, along with Medvedev?
Zverev’s move looks navigable early, with Mariano Navone in the second round, Alex Michelsen in the third, and either Denis Shapovalov or Jiri Lehecka in the fourth.
However, the quarter finals could pose a problem. Lorenzo Musetti, which has a 3-0 edge in its recent meetings, including a victory on this year’s Italian open, looms as a potential opponent.
Although the Italian is likely to have to deal with the audience who is not his biggest fans after the media blew some comments he did on court during Beijing in proportion. And he is also a fitness problem, given his pension from another match when he lost poorly in the third set.
Alternatively, Felix Auger-Aliassime, fresh of a surprising US Open run including a victory over Zverev, is a significant threat in this section.
Third quarter
Seeded players: (4) Novak Djokovic, (6) Ben Shelton, (11) Ruud Casper, (13) Andrey Rublev, (19) Francis of Cerundolo
Projected quarter final: Novak Djokovic against Ben Shelton
Novak Djokovic became a runner in Shanghai last year, and he is back again in the Far East to try to land a fifth title.
I was not sure if he would make the trip, but he is extremely liked in China, speaks part of Lingo and has played a role in a number of fantastic matches at Qizhong, especially against Federer and Murray.
His campaign opens against either Marin Cilic or Corentin Moutet, with Frances Tiefoe a potential third round of enemy.
A fourth round of Andrey Rublev or Flavio Cobolli is waiting, but Djokovic’s favorable head-to-head against all likely opponents makes him the clear favorite to reach the quarter finals.
Ben Shelton, who returns after a US Open third round of pension, is facing a tricky opener to David Goffin or Alexandre Muller.
Goffin already surpassed him in Mexico this year, and all remaining fitness problems could see Shelton go out early.
Sebastian Kora, a Semifinalist from 2023 Shanghai, is also a dangerous but constantly injured player. At the same time, Casper Ruud, also in this section plays better lately, possibly because of a racket change that has given him a boost.
Fourth quarter
Seeded players: (2) Jannik Sinner, (5) Taylor Fritz, (10) Dutch runes, (14) Alexander Bull, (20) Tomas Machac, (21) Ugo Hogeert, (27) Tallon Greece, (32) Giovani Mpeshi Perricard
Projected quarter final: Jannik Sinner towards Taylor Fritz
Jannik Sinner is commissioned to become the first player since Novak Djokovic 2013 to defend the Shanghai Masters title, and he is well ready to do it
The world # 1 has been a hardcourt juggernaut and reached the final in every Hardcourt event he has played since Cincinnati Open 2024.
His title defense begins against either Daniel Altmaier or a qualifying. Jenson Brooksby, a potential dark horse, could show up in the third round, while Alexander Bublik, one of only two players (together with Alcaraz) to defeat Sinner this year, looms as a possible fourth round test.
Taylor Fritz benefits to reach the quarter final from his section, with Holger Rune the second primary threat, and he faces Fritz in the fourth round, provided he navigates past players like Stan Wawrinka or Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard.
Fritz, who was bent by a new victory over Alcaraz at the Laver Cup but then became short in the Tokyo final, should still have his chances to challenge the sinner if his left thighs are not a problem (taped up in the Tokyo final after an injury) MTO)
Sins 4-1 Head-to-Head lead, including victories in last year’s US Open and ATP Finals, leans sharply to his advantage, and it is difficult to see the Italian not count in Monday’s final. Monday?! ??
