Pittsburgh Beginner Cornerback Mason Alexander died on Saturday night after a car accident in his hometown of fishermen, Ind. He was 18 years old.
Per Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office was Alexander a passenger in a BMW 2016. The driver of the car tried to pass another car and swung to avoid a collision with another vehicle, resulting in BMW going off the road and hit a tree. Alexander was pronounced dead at the scene.
Alexander, who was part of Pitt’s recruitment class, would join the team at the beginning of the spring exercise this month.
“I got a call this morning that no parent, teacher or coach ever wants – the news of the sudden loss of a young and promising life,” Panther’s head coach Pat Narduzzi said in a statement. “The whole program is shocked and deeply sorry to learn about Mason Alexander’s passing.
“Mason had just registered on Pitt in January after his early graduation from Indiana’s Hamilton Southeastern High School. Even for the short time he made a big impression on us all. Mason was proud and excited to be a panther, and we felt the same way to have him in our Pitt -Family.
