Paris Masters 2025 Day 4 Summary

Day four in Paris saw Ben Shelton seal his place in the ATP Finals and Valentin Vacherot’s Masters 1000 magic continued to shine.

The Monaco wildcard backed up his heroics in Shanghai with another impressive win, this time over Cameron Norrie, to record his 10th straight Masters victory and break into the world’s top 30.

Felix Auger-Aliassime kept his own Turin hopes alive with another comeback, while Alexander Bublik shocked Taylor Fritz to stay in the mix himself.

Alexander Zverev looked strong as he defended his title run, slipping past Alejandro Davidovich Fokina to reach a 35th Masters quarter-final and setting up a showdown with Daniil Medvedev, who survived two match points to stay alive in the race.

Jannik Sinner remained rock solid, although he showed some signs of fatigue at the end of the season, and Alex de Minaur officially locked up his Turin qualification with a commanding victory over Karen Khachanov.

Felix Auger-Aliassime def. Daniel Altmaier 3-6, 6-3, 6-2

Felix Auger-Aliassime rallied from a set down for the third straight match in Paris to defeat qualifier Daniel Altmaier to reach the quarter-finals and stay alive in the Nitto ATP Finals race (now 290 points behind 8th-placed Musetti).

The ninth seed won 87% (39/45) first-serve points and 20/25 net points, breaking three times after a sluggish start.

Valentin Vacherot def. Cameron Norrie 7-6(4), 6-4

Shanghai champion Valentin Vacherot extended his Masters 1000 winning streak to 10 matches, upsetting Alcaraz slayer Cameron Norrie to reach his first Paris QF (up 10 places to No. 30 live ranking).

The Monegasque wildcard fired 12 aces, saved all 4 break points, and I am very impressed with his level, and apart from Jannik and Carlos, there is no one else who plays much better than him.

Ben Shelton def. Andrey Rublev 7-6(6), 6-3

Ben Shelton clinched his debut spot in the Nitto ATP Finals (now number 6 Live Race) with a clinical performance against Andrey Rublev.

I wasn’t sure if Shelton was back to his best after the shoulder injury, but he brought the goods against the Russian, soaking up plenty of pressure and then firing back with his own venom, especially on set point in the first set tie break.

Alex de Minaur def. Karen Khachanov 6-2, 6-2

Alex de Minaur locked in Turin qualifying (2nd consecutive year, Tour-leading 42 wins on hard courts) with a round of 2018 Paris champion Khachanov, who broke five times in 72 minutes. It was a typical De Minaur performance and Khachanov had no real answers, especially after going the distance late last night against Fonseca.

Alexander Bublik def. Taylor Fritz 7-6(5), 6-2

Alexander Bublik stunned Taylor Fritz to keep his outsider finals hopes alive, coming through a tight opener with his typical style and 14 aces.

Bublik was as vocal as ever with his box and almost sounded like he had no chance of winning with some of his comments, asking why he had to face the world number four in the round of 16, but he pulled out the tie-break and dominated from there.

Jannik Sinner Def. Francisco Cerundolo 7-5, 6-1

Jannik Sinner advanced to the quarterfinals with a 7-5, 6-1 defeat of Francisco Cerundolo in 86 minutes, extending his indoor winning streak to 23 matches.

The second seed hit 12 winners to just 2 unforced errors in the opener, then broke in a marathon 10-minute match to start set 2 before racing away.

I thought Cerundolo might be able to ask some questions as he’s decent on slower hard courts, and while he was able to break Sinner twice in the first set, he couldn’t get much respite on serve, winning just 59% of first serves over the course of the match.

Sinner looked as steady as ever but he showed signs of the physicality of the season catching up with him, spraining his leg several times so if someone can actually keep him out long enough I think they can do something.

Daniel Medvedev def. Lorenzo Sonego 3-6, 7-6(5), 6-4

Daniil Medvedev kept his narrow ATP final dream alive with a 3-6, 7-6(5), 6-4 comeback over Lorenzo Sonego in 2 hours and 18 minutes.

Meddy saved 2 match points in the second set tiebreak, broke twice in the decider and Eon 72% first-serve points to reach the quarters. He will need to win Paris to have any chance of qualifying.

It was a high quality match and Meddy has shown good determination this week; he even failed to blow a gasket when a referee’s error cost him a double offence. Earlier this season, he likely would have had a meltdown.

Alexander Zverev def. Alejandro Davidovich Fokina 6-2, 6-4

Defending champion Alexander Zverev advanced to his 35th career ATP Masters 1000 quarter-final with a 6-2, 6-4 victory over 15th seed Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in 1 hour 35 minutes.

The third-seeded German, chasing a second straight Paris title, broke twice in each set and is playing reasonably. Can he defeat Meddy tomorrow? His record against him is poor, having lost 5 in a row.
