The 40th edition of the Paris Masters began on Monday, but for the first time not at the iconic Accor Arena in Bercy.
The tournament’s move to its brand new venue, Paris’ La Défense Arena, marks a new chapter, but organizers have created an almost identical experience in terms of visuals and surroundings, so for TV viewers things look almost identical.
On the court it was also business as usual for the most part, with no real upsets, with three seeds in action, all moving forward comfortably.
Andrey Rublev bounced back from the US Open with a confident victory, Grigor Dimitrov made a successful comeback from injury, and Cameron Norrie set up a second-round meeting with world number one Carlos Alcaraz.
2018 champion Karen Khachanov posted the fastest win of the day, winning in just 1 hour and 2 minutes, as he looks to replicate the form he showed in Bercy when he defeated Novak Djokovic in the final.
Here’s everything that went down on day one of the 2025 Rolex Paris Masters.

Key matches

Andrey Rublev def. Jacob Fearnley 6-1, 6-4
Andrey Rublev secured his first match win since reaching the US Open fourth round with a 6-1, 6-4 result against Jacob Fearnley on Monday.
After racing to a 6-1, 2-0 lead with the help of four breaks, Rublev found himself locked in a second-set battle as British qualifier Fearnley leveled at 2-2.
Rublev missed three break points at 3-2, but he took his next chance on a break chance that doubled as match point.
Rublev converted five of his 10 break points and benefited from 11 double faults from Fearnley, a crazy tally in just nine service games.
Rublev will next face Learner Tien, a 6-2, 7-6(7) winner against Nuno Borges earlier on Monday.
I had a very good time [opponent] today. He can play very well; he has won good matches this year. I was able to step up and play solid tennis. I have been struggling with the gains for a while. To win a match like this on center court, it’s a good feeling. Rublev on his win.
Alexander Bublik def. Alexei Popyrin 6-4, 6-3
Alexander Bublik took down Alexei Popyrin for the second time at an ATP Masters 1000 this season, repeating the result from their meeting in Madrid with a 6-4, 6-3 win that leveled their Head2Head at 2-2.
Cameron Norrie def. Sebastian Baez 6-3, 6-4
Cameron Norrie advanced to the second round with a straight sets victory over Sebastián Báez, setting up a clash with world No.1 Carlos Alcaraz on Tuesday.
The British No. 2 overcame a wobble midway through the second set and saved four break points in the final game to wrap up the match in 1 hour 24 minutes.
Grigor Dimitrov def. Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard 7-6(5), 6-1
Grigor Dimitrov returned from a four-month layoff due to the pectoral injury at Wimbledon with a 7-6(5), 6-1 victory over Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard.
I had a feeling he would make a winning return because Perricard is not in good form, and I don’t think the conditions really suit his game.
Grigor saved all three break points he faced and broke the Frenchman three times in a ruthless second set. He did a decent job of getting returns on the play, using his puck to good effect and picking off Perricard when he came into the net behind pucks that weren’t quite hitting well enough.
