Online games have exceeded slot machines as the largest source of gaming revenue in Pennsylvania, for the first time in the history of the state.
The announcement came when Pennyslyvania Gaming Contol Board (PGCB) revealed that gaming activity had generated a record $ 6.4 billion in revenue since the beginning of July 2024.
It wiped out the previous best with more than $ 500 million, but more surprisingly the revelation was that online casinos and games for the first time had become No. 1 source for gaming revenue.
How Online Games became No. 1 in Pennsylvania
Online games generated $ 2.48 billion, a record in its category with a substantial 27.09 percent increase compared to the previous financial year.
It also pressed Igaming before the $ 2.44 billion that was returned by slot machines in casinos.
The total figure of $ 6.4 billion consists of revenue from money spent on casino machines and table games, igaming, sports weak, video games (VGTS) and fantasy gate competitions.
Retail Table Games at casinos collected $ 928.9 million while sports games weighed at $ 487.6 million.
It has earned the state almost $ 2.8 billion in tax revenue for games and eclipse of the previous best of $ 2.54 billion earned 2023-24.
Pennsylvania runs from 1 July to 30 June.
What happens to the tax revenue from games?
PGCB stated that the revenues such as revenue are earmarked for economic development and budget priorities throughout the Commonwealth, which includes:
- Tax tax reduction on an owner’s primary home;
- State, county and local economic development, security and leisure projects;
- support from the agricultural industry through support for horse racing; and,
- Revenue against Commonwealth’s General Fund.
PGCB is an independent state agency created by Pennsylvania Race Horse Development and Gaming Act from 2004.
It is accused of the regulatory monitoring of certain types of legalized games in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
Game laws in the United States are much below each individual state, so although some will allow online casinos and poker, others will have much stricter rules.
Pennsylvania was one of the first states in the United States that legalized online casinos in 2019, when the supervisory authorities allowed Parx Casino in Philadelphia and Penn National’s Hollywood Casino that launched online gaming portals for protectors.
