Omar Rudberg Leans Into His Venezuelan Roots On Infectious New Single ‘Malandro’

Global pop sensation Omar Rudberg embraces her legacy like never before with her bold new single ‘Dodger’ — OUT NOW via Atlantic Records / TEN Music Group. The track comes as a stunning, rhythm-driven ode to his Latin roots – and to “mischievous energy” which defines its title.

Omar Rudberg Malandro

In Venezuelan slang, villain refers to someone “untrustworthy and dangerous – the kind of person you know you shouldn’t get too close to.” But in Rudberg’s hands the word becomes a metaphor for freedom, flirtation and self-expression. “The language and expressions from Venezuela have always been a natural part of me,” he says. “For me, it’s not about imitating someone else – it’s about letting that side of me shine through in the music.”

Built on a pulsating beat that mixes elegant pop production with Latin rhythmic flair, the song marks a new chapter in Rudberg’s sonic evolution. Fans of his previous singles like “My House Your House” and “Call Me By Your Name” will recognize the pop lacquer, but ‘Dodger’ hits deeper — powered by Spanish-language hooks, choral layers and a jaw-dropping groove that feels straight out of Caracas nightlife.

Commenting on the construction of the track, co-written with Dan Glazer, Rachel West and Sizzy Rocketexplains Omar: “The choir part came to me in Spanish quite naturally, without any planning. I’ve shown Latin American influences in my music before, and this song is another way for me to connect with my roots and show who I am.”
