National Bank Open 2025 Day 10 Recap

We are down to Final Four in Toronto, and the lower half of the draw delivered two strong quarter finals.

Taylor Fritz was first through and the weather out a late wobble to defeat Andrey ruled in straight sets. The second seed continued its ridiculous serving statistics, 20 ESS, 79% first serve points won and survived a blip when he served for the match at 5-4 in the other.

Still, Fritz stabilized the ship in Tiebreak to close a safe profit, and with that sets up an All-American semi-final collision.

Ben Shelton was next to him and killed Alex de Minaur’s rhythm with explosive service and controlled aggression.

The 22-year-old American 6-3, 6-4 victory snapped Aussie’s seven-match victory and shows that his all-Court games mature.

This is how the day developed 10 quarter final action at the National Bank Open.

Ben Shelton Def. Alex de Minaur, 6-3, 6-4

Ben Shelton snapped Alex de Minaur’s winning line with seven matches with a leading 6-3, 6-4 victory in the National Bank Open Quarter final.

The 22-year-old American, who took advantage of his thriving serving and heavy advance, surpassed the Toronto finalist in 2023 in 91 minutes.

Shelton fired 11 aces and eight advance winners and exploited the Minur’s uncharacteristic 28 unmatched errors.

Before match, I had the mine as a favorite, and I’m not really sure how one of the best retacers on the tour, plays one of the worst, can only break once when I release their own serve three times. But hey, it’s tennis and the minaur seems to come briefly when he meets someone in the top 10.

I am really happy with the profit; It showed a lot of mental toughness. He has broken me a million times in practice, and he is a really tough competitor. I served the sets confidentially, and I’m really excited about the chance to be in the semi -finals. Many guys see me as just a server and not as much as a baseliner. Psychologically, when I go into a match and go into Lockdown mode and put a million balls on the track, my rally ball comes with a good bit of weight, and I feel that I surprise guys sometimes. Being able to win the longer rally and be comfortable in my own skin and not feel that I am rushing to make something happen is a huge part of my development. Shelton on his win.

Taylor Fritz held the nerve to down 2024 Montreal finalist Andrey Rublev 6-3, 7-6 (4) with a quality service display.

The second seed, which became the first American to hit the quarter final in all nine Masters 1000s, fired 20 ESS and won 79% of the first serving points to further cement its top position on the ATP Serve Leaders diagram over the past 52 weeks.

Fritz cruised towards his 42nd straight hold of 5-4 in the second set but vacated and released the service after ruined his fourth breaking point. He regrouped in tiebreak and leaned on his 18-3 record since June to seal the victory.

This one went as expected, with Fritz’s serve and ruble on a plateau. You don’t really see him beat higher ranked opponents if they don’t have a bad day.

The whole game was so shaky for me. It’s strange because he kept light, I kept light. It felt like calm and chilly and suddenly I earn to be in the semis, the game’s print came out of nowhere. There is no way to sugar it, it was a tight game. My brain suspended. All you can do is come back and win the set. I would be much more upset about what happened in the game if I drop the match. Winning makes it not feel as bad. Fritz on his late match wobble.
