Miami Open 2025 Day 8 Recap

Day eight in Miami contained only a quarter final match when Novak Djokovic’s collision with Sebastian Kva was postponed to Thursday.

In the only quarter finals, Grigor Dimitrov played past Francisco Cerundolo and came through 6-7 (6) 6-4 7-6 (3) in 2 hours and 48 minutes.

With Sascha Zverev’s fourth round match that passed to Wednesday, it would have been meaningful to start the game earlier than 13.00, but the organizers decided to put five matches in the Stadium Court. That meant when Djokovic was going to play, it was over 23.00, and the ATP rules no longer allow a match to start after that time.

In the shot meeting, Arthur fought by back pain and a single-set deficit to overturn top seeds Alexander Zverev 3-6, 6-3, 6-4

Files faced early problems against Zverev. After losing the first set and receiving treatment for a nagging back edition, his vision looked bleak. He struck back to level, but at 1-3 in the decisions it looked like the upper seed continued.

Fils, however, changed their tactics, killed Zverev’s rhythm and rolled away four straight matches. Zverev shown under pressure, and the 17th seed backed up his Indian Wells quarter final with a different look in he lasts eight.

Grigor Dimitrov seems to find some extra juice in the tank in Miami, and he called each ounce from his veteran on Wednesday, saving a match point to exceed Francisco Cerundolo 6-7 (6), 6-4, 7-6 (3) and secure its 150th master 1000 match win,

The 33-year-old Bulgarian, a finalist in 2024, fought fatigue and a hard Cerundolo on a two-hour, 48-minute thriller.

Before the match, I had Cerundolo as the winner when he has been beaten in shape, and Dimitrov has had a little slow start to the year with several mid-match retirees. It makes me skeptical of his ability to grind it, especially when he has had some tough previous matches, so I expected a story similar to that from Indian Wells, where he ends up on gasoline.

After he destroyed seven set points in the opener, including a 6/4 lead in tiebreak and dumped a routine backhand volley in the net because the hand Cerundolo set, I thought my choice was correct.

But he struck back with Steely Resolve. The 14th seed changed gears in the second, adopted a more aggressive baseline position and goes a perfect 8/8 on net points. He broke in the opening game, did not release a single point on his first serving (11/11) and leveled the match with a mix of back -hand records and his brand one -hander and dictated collections with newfound texture.

The decision pushed Dimitrov near its limit. After 0-3, he split back to improve just to see Cerundolo Hold Match Point at 5-6. This time, the Argentine made a simple error and sent a backhand return wide.

Dimitrov grabbed the lifeline, and in the third set of tiebreak he beat the first blood, shot a pre -winner, tumbled to the ground and almost rolled his ankle in the process.

From there he held stuck and released three points in the switch to seal the victory and collapsed in relief after the handshake. Visible dizzy and helped the court by a tournament physician and ATP Physio, there was no interview on the court.

Next up: A blockbuster semi-finals against either six-o’clock champion Novak Djokovic or Home Hope Sebastian Korda. I don’t see how he holds up physically for it, but he proved me wrong last night, so we’ll see.
