Dallas Maverick’s assistant coach Darrell Armstrong was arrested on Saturday and faces an accusation of aggravated abuse with a deadly weapon.

Dalla’s police department confirmed the arrest on Sunday. Mavericks said in a statement that they had canceled an unidentified employee.

“Dallas Mavericks is aware of an incident involving an employee and gathers all relevant information about the event,” the team said in a statement Sunday. “We take this issue seriously. The employee has been placed on administrative cancellation pending the result of legal procedures. … We will refrain from further comments while the procedure is ongoing.”

Armstrong, 56, is accused of meeting another person with a gun and threatened to shoot the individual, as the TV station Wfaa in Dallas identified as a woman. The Dallas police responded to a call during the early hours on Saturday morning.

Armstrong has been working as an assistant coach for Mavericks since 2009. His NBA gaming career (1994-2008) amounted to 840 matches for Orlando Magic, the then New Orleans Hornets, Indiana Pacers, the then New Jersey Nets and Mavericks.
