Singer-songwriter Maisie Peters has revealed her latest track ‘My Regards’, a further insight into her upcoming third album Florescence.
The track is very much a standout offering from Maisie, and is one of her most powerful yet. Combining elements of the classic love song, country music and Maisie’s sassy lyrics, ‘My Regards’ showcases the artist at her most confident and offers yet another dimension to her multi-faceted songbook.
Speaking about the song, Maisie said: “‘My Regards’ feels powerful, tongue-in-cheek, sexy and fun, all that I feel are parts of myself that I haven’t really had time to explore much musically until this album! I was inspired by a lot of the country greats and their ‘stand by your man’ songs, so I thought I’d play my own modern version of the song instead; of creeping love interest, which is so often how women have been portrayed in relationships through the story.”
The track comes accompanied by an epic image with stars Overcompensating creator Benito Skinner. It was also directed by Amelia Dimoldenberg, who recently shot the film Angus, thongs and perfect snogging campaign for Florescence with Georgia Groome.
A tribute through the lyric “Call me Kevin Costner the way I’m guarding his body”, the video channels the film from 1992 The bodyguard with Maisie taking on the role of protector. The visual feels like it could be an older sister to Maisie’s “Psycho,” plus she’s showing off a new dance routine we’re getting ready to learn!
Of the video, Amelia said: “Directing this music video for Maisie has been an absolute joy. From the moment I heard the song, I knew we had to lean into her talent for storytelling. I thought it would be interesting to subvert the ‘possessive girlfriend’ trope by making Maisie a literal bodyguard. It felt like a fun way to enhance the story.”
