Draper drives past Paul

Jack Draper does easy work with his opposition at Mutua Madrid Open this week and drives into the quarter finals in the Spanish capital on Wednesday with a ruthless 6-2, 6-2 demolition by Tommy Paul in just 68 minutes at Manolo Santana Stadium.

I thought Paul might be somewhat competitive, given that he had beaten Khachanov, but the fact that he took the typical American approach to Clay – ie, jumped over half of it – did not help his thing.

I had also not realized how weak his record is in the year-he is barely beaten anyone, and before Madrid was his best win by ranking so far this year the 66th ranked Davidovich Fokina in Australia.

Draper, on the other hand, is still increasing and rides on the wave of trust from Indian wells. He had already sent Tallon Griekspoor and Matteo Berrettini before he knocked Paul in a baseline attack that left the American helpless. He is facing Arnaldi next time, and further victories in Madrid could see him break into the top 5 in the ATP ranking.

I felt really good out there. I know Tommy is an amazing player and I had to be on him from off. I felt good. I probably think for those players who come from the UK or who do not play on this surface often, they go into it with the way of thinking that they will not be so good at it and therefore it can prevent them from moving on. I know I can play well on this area and this year it has been a big goal for me to prove that I can play really well. I know if I want to be a top player that I have to. Jack Draper on his winnings.

Muettes downs de mineur

Lorenzo Musetti enters the top 10 on Monday after a commander 6-4, 6-2 victory over Alex de Minaur in Wednesday’s last sixteen collision.

The Italian has had a strong clay court swing so far, making the final in Monte Carlo before his body failed, and he has a realistic shot to go better in Madrid, given how open the draw is.

Sending those mineur for the loss of only six games is no average performance, and he was super -efficient on return games and broke seven times in the match to record victory in 68 minutes.

Other matches of notes

Matteo Arnaldi (44) upset 16th Frös Frances Tiefoe 6-3, 7-5 at Arantxa Sanchez Stadium and secured his second Masters 1000-quarter. Arnaldi dictated play with aggressive baseline cones, broke Tiefoe to win the first set and recover from not serving the second set of 5-4, ultimately breaking again to pass on 7-5. The Italian, who previously defeated Novak Djokovic, noted his third top 20 victory in a row, while Tiefoe’s Clay campaign so far has been OK (6-3); He has not had any prominent gains.

Gabriel Dialo (Lucky Loser) stunned the 15th seed graigs Dimitrov 5-7, 7-6 (7), 6-4, secure its biggest career win and First Masters 1000 quarter final. Diallo dropped the first set 5-7 after Dimitrov broke late, but the Canadian fought back and saved three match points in the second set to force a tiebreak, which he won 9-7. In the crucial third set, Diallo Dimitrov’s service broke to pass the 6-4 victory to continue the lucky loser trend in Madrid after Stuff did the last two years ago. For Dimitrov not to close the second set, as all three match points were on his servic, is quite pathetic, and he can play like a real pansy sometimes.
