Luxor casino pool construction underway

A Strip casino is moving forward with a pool renovation during one of the coldest stretches of winter, with work progressing as Las Vegas looks toward milder temperatures and the start of pool season.

Work is underway at the Luxor hotel-casino, where crews have already demolished one of the resort’s pools and begun construction on a new pool area. Parent company MGM Resorts International said it is replacing what it internally calls its South Pool with a new pool that will offer more deck space.

Luxor employees said hotel guests will have access to the pool areas at nearby Mandalay Bay and Excalibur while the new pool is under construction.

The company did not provide a timeline or expected cost for the project.

Clark County records show a demolition permit was issued Dec. 19 with a contract value of $220,000. An application for a commercial grading permit was filed in January, but the county identified minor errors in the deed and requested correction.

By comparison, the recent $20 million overhaul of the GO Pool at the Flamingo was a months-long project that began in October and finished the following May. The work that takes place in Luxor is much smaller in scope and limited to one of the resort’s pool areas.
