Arriving late last month with little to no fanfare, “West End Girl” has drawn a strong response from fans and critics alike, and is already making a significant impact in her career. Released after a seven-year hiatus, the record has been praised for its raw honesty and vivid storytelling, with reviewers describing it as a “brutal, vulnerable and victorious comeback”.
Fans have reacted with particular intensity — many say they’ve felt an emotional connection to the album, calling it a “master class” and described it as a listening experience they returned to in an uninterrupted sitting.
Commercially, it also bodes well: it debuted at number four on the UK Albums Chart, making it her highest release in over a decade.
More than just a chart success, the album shapes Allen’s legacy by affirming her voice in pop: stripped of victimhood, she frames heartbreak and transformation with ambition and theatricality.
