It’s the comeback season for Katseye. On Wednesday, April 30, the girl group made its long -awaited return with “Gnarly.” The single, which marks its first new music in eight months, is a bold track that will surely be a challenger for the summer song.
“Gnarly” sees Daniela, Lara, Manon, Megan, Sophia and Yoonchae showing a whole new side of themselves. While their former singles “debut” and “touch” were about themes about friendship, love and self -sense, “gnarly” is about the girls’ experience as members of Gen Z. through the entire song, Katseye makes cultural references to snacks such as Boba Tea and Takis, as well as popular slang Terms like “Lit” and “Gang.” They also boast about their newfound fame who lives in Hollywood and makes music.
According to a press release, Katseyse’s “Gnarly” texts are intended to radiate “tension, vulnerability and overstimulation” when the girls embrace “the blurred line between the real and the digital worlds.”
“We want people to feel the vibbs, really connect to our music,” the group said about their latest edition. “‘Gnarly’ feels true to us – it’s bold, it’s fun and it shows another side of what we’re about. It feels good to share more of it as we grow with Eyekons.”
Eyekons is the name of Katsey’s dedicated fandom, which the group has built steadily over the past two years. Fans first fell in love with the girls by looking at them at Dance Academy. The reality show, which was launched in August 2023, involved various female competitors from all over the world competing for a place in Hybe and Geffen Record’s first global girl group. In the end, Daniela, Lara, Manon, Megan, Sophia and Yoonchae were chosen to debut in Katseye.
After his time at the show, the sextet lost its first single, suitable with the title “Debut”, in June 2024, before releasing their second single, “Touch”, just a few weeks later. Both tracks were presented on their first EP, Sis (soft is strong), Which arrived in August last year. To promote the mini album, Katseye collaborated with Netflix to release its documentary, Pop Star Academy: Katseyeon the streaming platform. The series gave the fans one behind the scenes look at the group’s education before and under Dream Academy.
