After endless online speculation, it has been confirmed that Jonathan Bailey and Ariana Grande will be reuniting for a new revival of Sunday in the park with George.
The couple, who have lit up the screen in Evil as Fiyero and Glinda, will take to the stage at London’s Barbican Center in the summer of 2027. Jonathan is no stranger to performing on stage in London, having played in e.g. business, cock, and lastly, Richard II at Bridgeteatern. This will mark Ariana’s theatrical debut in the capital.
News of the Stephen Sondheim revival has been speculating online for a number of weeks. But earlier today, Jonathan seemingly confirmed the news by sharing a photo on in front of Georges Seurat’s famous painting, “A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte,” which the show was inspired by.
Now the production has been officially announced, along with additional news about the creatives involved. Directed by Marianne Elliott, who previously worked with Jonathan on both Business and Cock, the production features design by Tom Scutt, known for his recent work with Into the forest. Additional information on cast and creative will be announced in due course.
Tickets for the Barbican production go on sale in May 2026 and will be available exclusively via the Barbican website and box office. Register here for more information on ticket sales.
This will be the first major London production of the Sunday in the park with George for over 20 years. With music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and book by James Lapine, the musical revolves around George, a fictional version of Georges Seurat, who immerses himself deeply in painting his masterpiece.
