Carlos Alcaraz struggled through an early challenge to move on at Internazionali Bnl d’Italia on Sunday evening in Rome and reached the fourth round for the first time.

The world # 3 came through a tricky first set before sending Laslo Djere 7-6 (2), 6-2 at Campo Central in one hour and 44 minutes.

Alcaraz met the resistance early when the Serbian fired pre-winners to lead 3-1. But Djere’s right arm, which he had surgery not so long ago, caused him discomfort, which required a visit from the tournament physio.

Despite this, Djere broke again at 5-5 and gave him the chance to serve the set when Alcaraz’s inconsistencies bred his ugly head, but he cluttered back to force a tie break.

The Spanjolen found its range in the switch and sealed the set with a sick advance disc winner from a defensive position to take responsibility.

Djere’s injury became clearer in the second set, when he quickly fell behind with two breaks when Alcaraz started the coast and came through for the loss of only two matches.

Carlos is now facing the 23rd seed Karen Khachanov, who dismantled the Francesco home house fits 6-3, 6-0 earlier in the day. He will have to play better.

Arthur Fils continued his dominance over Stefano’s Tsitsipas and drove into the fourth round with a 2-6, 6-4, 6-2 comeback at the Grand Stand Arena.

Fils collected from a shaky start to overclass the Greek in an hour and 55 minutes, and after Tsitipas labeled him online with a body shot (something he tries quite often), files called the aggression and ripped ground currents from both wings to attach Tsitipas deep and edged.

Fils now have quarter finals in Indian Wells, Miami and Monte-Carlo, plus a semi-final in Barcelona, where he also defeated Tsitsipas.

The Frenchman is now facing defending champion Alexander Zverev, who cruised past the Lithuanian qualifier Vilius Gauba’s 6-4, 6-0 in 86 minutes.

Zverev, a twice Rome champion, rides on a win with nine matches in the Italian capital. While his trust levels are still doubtful, he looks to find form, and his forehand looked solid for once.

Daniil Medvedev is driven past Alexei Popyrin 6-4, 6-1, and signaled his intention to regain the Rome title he won in 2023. The 10th seed was clinically, which saved six of seven break points and exceeded the poppy.

We will soon find out how Meddy will go towards more reliable opposition when he meets Lorenzo Musetti Next, which marked his 150th victory at turn level with a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Brandon Nakashima. With the support of a passionate home audience, Musetti showed its brand flair and variety and moved to an impressive 20-4 on clay since July last year.

Later in the day, Corentin Moutet delivered a performance to remember and surpassed the World No. 10 Holger Rune 7-5, 5-7, 7-6 (4) on a three-hour, 45-minute marathon on Pietrangeli.

Moutet is a fun watch. His game shows that there is more than one way that the skin a cat, and he struggled back from wasting three match points on serving at 5-4 in the third set to seal his Virgin Top 10 victory in a final tie-break.

The collision is ranked as the longest match of the season so far, and it is not difficult to see why. When you connect the mouth, which cannot blow anyone from the court, with Rune, who will always fight to the tooth and nail to the end, you will surely have a long battle.

Next up for the Moutet is World No. 5 Jack Draper, who pushed past the Czech qualifier white Copriva 6-4, 6-3 in one hour and 40 minutes. He backs up his Madrid performance to prove that he is now a challenger at Clay.
