Daily summary

Alcaraz French OpenAlcaraz French Open

Carlos Alcaraz (2) Def. Giulio Zeppieri 6-3, 6-4, 6-2

Carlos Alcaraz was all the business in his first demolition of the qualification Giulio Zeppieri when he made a successful start to his title defense.

The Spanjolen cruised through 6-3, 6-4, 6-2 in one hour and 56 minutes, which saved all three break points he met, and Zeppieri had no real answers to tennis Alcaraz served.

Fresh Off ATP Masters 1000 titles in Monte-Carlo and Rome, Alcaraz recycled the place 2 in the ATP ranking last week and he meets Fabian Marozsan in round two, who upset him a couple of years back in Rome.

It was really, really solid. The first round of the tournament is never easy, to come here because the defending master can be even tougher. But I just started pretty well and kept my good pace throughout the match. I tried to be focused on my game to get a good rhythm. I’m just really proud of my start here at Roland Garros, where I was really happy to play my first match this year. Alcaraz on his win.

Daniel Altmaier Def. Taylor Fritz (4) 7-5, 3-6, 6-3, 6-1

Altmaier delivered the first major upset of the tournament, excavating fourth seed Fritz in a two-hour, 41-minute battle.

The no.

The American, who lost his first Roland Garros opening match since 2018, has struggled with an injury during the master and is far from the pace of the red dirt.

When you have got him into the procedure, he is relatively unclear what to do, and when you hear some players on the tour says that today’s top 10 is much stronger now than 10 years ago, you just have to laugh 🤣

Gabriel Diallo Def. Francisco Cerundolo (18) 7-5, 6-3, 6-4

Canadas Dialo stunned the 18th seed cerundolo for a two-hour, 10-minute upset at the court 13, which marked his first Roland Garro’s main win.

I had Cerundolo who made the quarter final 🙈 but the 54-ranked Canadian broke late in the first set, gathered from an early deficit in the second and sealed the third with a key break, shot 27 winners and four aces.

Cerundolo has been a clay court’s prominent with a 19-9 record in 2025, but he did not receive a read about Dialos serving and had one of the bad days in the office.

Holger Rune (10) Def. Roberto Bautista Agut 6-7 (4), 6-4, 6-3, 6-2

Rune fought past Bautista Agut to secure his second round and set up a date with Emilio Nava.

The Danish is on a potential collision course for the fourth round with Lorenzo Musetti. With Fritz out, Rune and Musetti are the best seeds in their neighborhood, and see deep runs after Rune’s back-to-back quarter final (2022-23) and Musetti’s fourth round (2021, 2023).

Jannik Beer (1) Def. Arthur Rinderknech 6-4, 6-3, 7-5

World No. 1 Jannik Sinner struggled through a tricky night session on the Court Philippe Chatrier and overcame a lively Arthur Rinderknech and a hard French audience to win 6-4, 6-3, 7-5 in two hours and five minutes.

Sinner started strong and took the first set 6-4 with 83% first serving points to win and saved all break points.

The precision of the typical sinner was clear, with eight winners and only three winged errors in the opener.

The second set saw sinners maintain control, breaking Rinderknech’s servant twice to secure a 6-3 lead, despite the Frenchman’s aggressive serving-and-volley tactics and a powerful serving.

The third set became dramatic when Rinderknech, run by the home crowd’s Mexican wave and cheer, grew into a 5-2 lead with two breaks of the sinner serving.

However, the Italian showed icing calm, rolled away five straight games, utilized Rinderknech’s 47 unthreatened errors and a critical double error to seal the match.

Other remarkable results

Richard Gasquet Def. Terence Atmane 6-2, 2-6, 6-3, 6-0: The Frenchman took advantage of Atmanes cramps in the third set to roll through, and he meets Jannik Sinner Next, potentially his last match at Roland Garros.

Alejandro Davidovich Fokina (26) Def. Pablo Llama’s Ruiz 6-3, 6-2, 6-7 (4), 6-3: The Spaniard survived a third set of terror, but last season this match would probably have gone deep into the fifth set, so kudos to Fokina.

Jacob Fearnley Def. Stan Wawrinka 7-6 (7), 6-3, 6-2: Brit upset the veteran that I thought may have offered a little more considering that he played nicely in some challengers Pre French Open.

Denis Shapovalov (27) Def. Porto Martínez 6-2, 6-0, 6-3: Shapovalov was ruthless in a result I did not expect, because he has fought for form.

Miomir Kecmanovic Def. Sebastián Báez 6-7 (3), 6-7 (4), 6-4, 6-2, 6-2: A dirty five-set comeback for the Serbs.

Stefanos Tsitsipas (20) Def. Tomás Martín Etcheverry 7-5, 6-3, 6-4: Tsitsipas looked sharp on the clay and considering how he has played, seeing off etcheverry in Straights is a good show.

Sebastian ofner Def. Jan-Lennard Stuff 7-6 (5), 6-3, 6-7 (5), 6-2: Ofner held on to a four-set battle, and the Austrian has played some solid things since he returned from his photo operation.

Hugo Gaston Def. UGO Blancet 2-6, 6-0, 2-6, 6-3, 6-4: Gaston fought back in a rock-and-dal-five-sets with his creative shotgun, reminiscent of his 2020 fourth round, he sets up a second round with the winner of Alex de Minaur vs. Zhizhen Zhang.
