Exclusive: Catie Turner chatting about new single “I Might”

Catie Turner first caught the attention of the mass with his unforgettable audition on season 16 of American idol. Since then, her vulnerable lyrics and powerful songs have helped her build a dedicated fanbase.

With a number of popular editions under her belt, Turner has continued to develop as an artist over time. Following the outbreak of “God must hate me” and fan favorites like “Prom Queen”, she is now ready to release her next single, “I Might”, June 6.

In an exclusive interview with Celebmix, the “2000s Machine” opens on the inspiration behind “I Might”, her creative process and the connection she hopes her fans know through her music.

You first got national attention to American Idol with your original song “21st Century Machine.” When you look back, how do you think that moment shaped your journey as an artist?

I think it is so important because that was what started the whole journey, not just career but mentally. Before Idol and “21st Century Machine”, an artist was something I just dreamed of being.

“God must hate me” really reasoned with people online and got viral – do you know it would hit so hard when you wrote it?

I had no idea! I remember I was so confused and looked at the numbers to the point I looked up to heaven and just started laughing at the irony in everything. It feels incredible but when you can write something that finds their people immediately; It’s like a validating hug.

“I might” sound like it’s going to be another fan favorite. Can you tell the story behind the track and what inspired it?

Thank you very much! “I might” is about my relationship with intimacy and how before a certain someone told me intimacy with the obligation. I didn’t know I would feel safe and comfortable too! “I might” is about dismantling these opinions with the help of a loving partner.

Was the songwriting process for “I Might” similar to other singles that you recently released?

Yes, in the way because it is my feelings and to be born of words vomiting and flashes, while it is no because the subject is a little different from what I have publicly talked about. She’s another too sure!

You are entitled your own tour and shared scenes with artists such as Léon and Valley. Do you have a favorite song to perform live for your fans?

I love singing “stepmom.” It’s the closest you’ll ever see a Mosh Pit at a Catie Turner concert.

You have built a community of over a million followers. What do you hope your fans remove from your music, especially now?

I hope they feel heard and I can offer them a look through my eyes so they could see that they are not alone at all. Brain is a wonderful and terrible thing, so if I could offer some relief through my music I think a significant performance.

For new fans who only discover your music, what do you want them to know about you and the art you create?

I’m honest, I’m chaotic, [and] I’m not polished, but I think that’s what makes the music real. You will go away from one of my songs with a strong idea of what kind of person I am, for better or worse.
