Just over three years since it was first released, Djo has earned his first UK number one single with ‘End of Beginning’.
The song knocked RAYE’s ‘Where Is My Husband’ off the top spot, having also had its biggest week of streaming in the UK, with 5.4 million combined streams.
‘End of Beginning’ made its UK Top 100 debut back in February 2024, initially peaking at number four. The song’s popularity increased due to its virality on TikTok, allowing it to spend a total of 28 weeks on the chart. Now the song has finally reached the top of the chart, with its return partly due to the finale of Stranger Thing, which aired on New Year’s Day.
Djo is better known as Joe Keery, who stars as Steve Harrington in the Netflix sensation, and fans celebrated the end of the series by making edits on social media with “End of Beginning” as the soundtrack.
His success isn’t limited to the UK either – ‘End of Beginning’ was recently number one on the global Spotify and US iTunes charts, while his album Decide also reached number one on the US iTunes alternative chart.
Djo isn’t the only artist enjoying a further boost on the map due to Stranger Things. A number of songs placed on the show have stormed the charts, including Kate Bush’s ‘Running Up That Hill’, Prince’s ‘Purple Rain’, David Bowie’s ‘Heroes’ and Tiffany’s ‘I Think We’re Alone Now’.
Other songs associated with the show that have returned to the charts include The Police’s “Every Breath You Take”, Diana Ross’ “Upside Down” and The Clash’s “Should I Stay Or Should I Go”.
