2025 Cincinnati Open Draw is here, and it is all change at Lindner Family Tennis Center due to a huge $ 260 million transformation with new eye -catching architecture and the enlargement of campus to double its previous size.
But while the arena has planned, the decision to extend the single draw from 56 to 96 players looks like a bad move based on what we have seen somewhere else, especially in Toronto.
What was once one of the most streamlined, high-quality Masters events is now the same type of inflated format as we have seen in Madrid, Rome and Toronto.
More Byes, more qualifiers and more junk first rounds. I have always liked Cincy for its fast courts and the fact that it was about intensity and fast tennis from the very first ball. Now it is two weeks with a Monday finale.

Thoughts on the draw

Highest half
Seeded players: Jannik Sinner (1), Taylor Fritz (4), Holger Rune (7), Lorenzo Musetti (8), Frances Tiefoe (10), Casper Ruud (11), Tommy Paul (13), Flavio Cobolli (15), Alejandro Davidovich (17), Tomár), Tomár), Tomá), Tomá), Tomá), Tomá), Tomáster), Tomáster (17). Tsitsipas (25), Alex Michelsen (28), Gabriel Diallo (30), Lorenzo Sonego (31)
Top seeds and defending champion Jannik Sinner, fresh from his Wimbledon title, starts with a village and meets either white copy or a qualification in the second round.
Sinner’s draw looks very manageable, with a potential third round against Gabriel Diallo (30) the only real interest.
Dialo, which has risen nicely up the ranking, can be a challenge on tough courts, but Sinner’s texture and recently dominance makes him a strong favorite.
Tommy Paul (13) and Tomáš Macháč (19) anchor the other side of this quarter. Paul has been struggling with some injuries lately and has not played since his loss to Ofner on Wimbledon. But Machac is not exactly reliable this season with several pensions.
Sinner’s superior firepower is likely to prevail unless Paul has a fantastic day with his speed and court coverage.
Casper Rudu (11) and Félix Auger-Aliiassime (23) are in a tricky section with Stephenos Tsitsipas (25) and Lorenzo Muse (8).
Ruud is about the clay, but he has a US Open final on his resume, and he starts against a Rinderknech or Nuno Borges. Auger-Aliassime, who rarely shows up in the Masters 1000s, could meet Ruud in the third round,
Tsitsipas has fought for texture all season, and his third round of opponents can be Musetti, which has had a good year but a little decline after his Roland Garros pension.
Taylor Fritz (4) leads up the third quarter of the upper half and Faces Born Coric or Christopher O’Connell in the second round.
Fritz’s powerful serving and baseline game fits Cincinnati tough courts, but players very rarely do well in back-to-back masters 1000 events, and given that he is still in Toronto, I’m not sure what to expect.
Lorenzo Sonego (31) is a potential third round of opponents and he is always dangerous. Alejandro Davidovich Fokina (17) and Flavio Cobolli (15) are in this section and both are capable.
Frances Tiefoe (10), a Cincinnati finalist 2024, lands in the lower quarter and starts and faces Roberto Carballes Baena or Hugo Gaston in the second round.
Ugo Humbert (20) and Alex Michelsen (28) are also in this section, with Michelsen as potentially meets Holger Rune (7) in the third round.
Rune still plays inconsistently, and Michelsen can upset; However, a tiafoe vs. The Rune quarter finals are a crowd, given their semi-final last year where Big FO saved two match points.
Lower half
Seeded players: Carlos Alcaraz (2), Alexander Zverev (3), Ben Shelton (5), Alex de Minaur (6), Andrey Rublev (9), Daniil Medvedev (12), Karen Khachenov (14), Jakub Mensik (16), Jiri, Arthur Fils (18), Alexi Files (18), (18), Alexi. (22), Denis Shapovalov (24), Tallon Griekspoor (26), Brandon Nakashima (27), Luciano Dardeni (29), Cameron Norrie (32)
The lower half has the headline of the world no. 2 Carlos Alcaraz, along with Alexander Zverev (3), Ben Shelton (5) and Alex de Minaur (6).
Shelton meets either Camilo Ugo Carabelli or Kei Nishikori in the second round. Shelton’s powerful serve and aggressive style fits hard courts, but Nishikori’s experience can be a challenge if the veteran is healthy. And as I said above it is not easy to play well in Toronto and then Cincinnati is.
Drawen projects Shelton to meet Daniil Medvedev (12) in the fourth round, with a potential third round against Cameron Norrie (32) or Roberto Bautista Agut.
Medvedev, Cincinnati champion 2019, opens to a qualifying or Adam Walton and was able to meet Jiri Lehecka in the third round.
Medvedev’s specialism for hard court is tempered by his lack of a title on the surface since 2023, and it is difficult to see him be a strength considering what he has produced this season.
Elsewhere in the second quarter of the lower half, Khachanov’s Toronto signal form, while files’ is a bit of a dark horse after his back injury.
But Alexander Zverev (3), 2021 Cincinnati master, is the favorite in this section, and he meets either Gael Monfils or Wildcard Nishesh Basavarddy in the second round.
A potential matchup from the third round against Brandon Nakashima (27) could test him, but Zverev’s baseline game should prevail.
The quarter finals could see Zverev vs. Shelton, but with their fate that has not yet been established in Toronto, I’m not sure who I would choose.
Alex de Minaur (6), fresh from a 2025 Washington title and Solid Toronto drive, opens against either Reilly Opelka or Hugo Dellien.
A potential fourth round collision with Andrey Rublev (9) looms, with ruled before either Alexei Popyrin (21) or a qualification in the third round.
Luciano Däri (29) and Jaume Munar add depth, but de Minaur vs. Rubbar in the fourth round is likely, with the minur who favors to reach the quarter finals.
Carlos Alcaraz (2), 2023 Cincinnati -finalist, meets either Mattia Bellucci or Damir Dzumhur. He is expected to meet Tallon Griekspoor (26) in the third round and Jakub Mensik (16) or Denis Shapovalov (24) in the fourth.
Mensik, Miami master, and Shapovalov, with his Los Cabos title, are dangerous, but Alcaraz’s firepower should see him through.
A quarter final against the mine are likely, but I do not see that Aussie has the tools to get Carlos turned off.
Based on a draw, I believe that a sinner vs Alcaraz area is likely, and if we get a similar quality as Djokovic against Alcaraz here two years ago, it should be good.
