Cincinnati Open 2025 Round 2 Recap

Day two in Cincinnati put in the opening round, and it was a strong show for the American contingent.

Emilio Nava led the accusation and took out 2022 Master Born Coric without meeting a breaking point, while the 19-year-old student Tien, Niskesh Basavardy and Wild Card Jenson Brooksby also advanced. Ethan Quinn joined them with his first Masters 1000 victory and pleased the home crowd.

A total of seven American men booked their place in round two. On the back, Marcos Giron’s poor hard -court form continued with a loss for the Blockx loss, while Kei Nishikori took a new hit with a straight loss to Camilo Ugo Carabelli.

American success aside, the order of the game was quite weak for a Masters 1000, which further cemented the fact that 2-week Masters 1000s are not working well.

With the round of 128 complete, day 3 takes the big names in games that Jannik Sinner, Casper Ruud and Taylor Fritz met the court.

Emilio Nava Def. BORNA CORIC, 6-3, 7-5

American qualifying Emilio Nava upset 2022 Cincinnati Master Born Coric 6-3, 7-5. The 23-year-old, fresh from a Toronto third round, did not meet a breaking point in a match that should have been played yesterday.

Both guys have torn up the Challenger circuit this year, but Coric, ranked as no. 92, could not replicate his 2022 Cincy Magic, where he stunned Nadal on his way to the title. Nava now meets fourth seed Taylor Fritz in an All-American collision, which beats 0-1 in its main-head.

Teacher Tien Def. Leandro Diludi, 6-3, 6-4

The teacher Tien sent the qualifier Leandro Riedi 6-3, 6-4 in a compound 90-minute performance. The 19-year-old saved all six break points.

Tien bucks the trend with Americans when he plays a very balanced /level head of tennis. No fireworks, just super stable, and he has beaten 3 top 10 wins this season. He sets up a second round of ninth seed Andrey rubled,

Nishash Basavarddy Def. Aleksandar Vukic, 7-6 (5), 7-5

Nishesh Basavarddy noted its first ATP Masters 1000 victory and edged Lucky Loser Aleksandar Vukic 7-6 (5), 7-5 in a narrow Cincinnati opener.

The American had been planned to meet Gael Monfils, who went late in the day, but he quickly adapted his baseline consistency, which turned out to be crucial in two tight sets.

Basavarddy is facing the third seed Alexander Zverev next in their first meeting with head-to-head.

Jenson Brooksby Def. Alexandre Muller, 7-6 (2), 5-7, 6-1

Jenson Brooksby fought past Alexandre Muller 7-6 (2), 5-7, 6-1. Brooksby’s aggressive game in the decisive overwhelmed Muller, with the American’s nine winners in the third set that proved crucial, while 9 matches double errors did not help the Frenchman’s cause.

Ethan Quinn Def. Miomir Kecmanovic, 7-6 (5), 6-4

Ethan Quinn stunned Miomir Kecmanovic 7-6 (5), 6-4 to claim his first ATP-Masters 1000 victory, and exciting Cincinnati audience.
