The 18-year-old Brazilian dominated behind his first serving in the ruling (won 17 out of 18 points) and roared in triumph after seaing the victory in 2 hours, 19 minutes.

Corentin Moutet Def. Mackenzie McDonald 7–5, 6–3

Frenchman Corentin Moutet silenced the American audience at the Center Court with a cunning straight victory over Mackenzie McDonald. With the help of its brand variation, Moutet McDonald’s Rhythm disturbed and utilized important breaking point chances late in both sets to proceed. The win sets up a tougher test in the next round, but Lefty’s Control and Poise made a strong statement on day 1.

Coleman Wong Def. Giovanni Mpeshi Pericard 6–3, 6–2

Hong Kongs Coleman Wong produced one of today’s purest performances and dismantled the 6’8 Frenchman Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard without meeting a single breaking point. Wong Broke Serve three times, an impressive performance against one of the biggest servers on the tour, and showed why he is a name to watch as the event progresses.
