Cincinnati Open 2025 Day 6 Recap

Day six in Cincy saw Carlos Alcaraz keep his Cincinnati title on alive and hooked his 50th victory in 2025 with a straight victory over Hamad Medjedovic.

Spanjolen’s movement and angles turned out too much for the great striking Serbian, who faded in important rally after receiving neck treatment. Alcaraz now meets Lucky Loser Luca Nardi, who dismantled the 16th seed Jakub Mensik in just 66 minutes.

Andrey Rublev produced one of his cruel performances during the season and exceeded Alexei-poppyrin in a three-and-one-half-hour thriller who tested both the players’ legs and lungs in Ohio’s swelling conditions.

Francisco Comesana delivered another upset by taking out Reilly Opelka, while Karen Khachanov pushed past Jenson Brooksby in straight sets.

Alexander Zverev was a game away from victory over Brandon Nakashima before Lightning stopped the game and the winner will meet Khachanov in the fourth round when they stopped under clearer sky.

Key matches

Carlos Alcaraz Def. Hamad Medjedovic, 6-4, 6-4

Carlos Alcaraz noted his 50th victory in 2025 and defeated Hamad Medjedovic 6-4, 6-4 in 95 minutes to reach the Cincinnati Open fourth round.

World No. 2, which weather out Ohio’s Heat, over -operated the mighty Serbian by forcing the side movement and converting three of seven breaking points.

Medjedovic is a real brute on court, but he is less effective when he has to run in circles, which is what Carlos can make you do. A neck injury he received from the treatment also did not help, and he seemed to Baila by a lot of rally with poorly performed drip shots.

Alcaraz meets the next Luca Nardi as the Italian directed Jakub Mensik for the loss of only three games

Andrey rubled Def. Alexei Popyrin, 6-7 (5), 7-6 (5), 7-5

Andrey Rublev exceeded the 21st seed Alexei-popyrin in an astonishing 6-7 (5), 7-6 (5), 7-5 marathon after three hours and 30 minutes.

This was a real fatigue war in the heat, and I think it was a much needed “big” win for Rublev when he opposed 14 esss and 35 winners from Popyrin before breaking late in the third set to get through.

Excluding Qatar it has been a fairly bull season for the Russian and he has lost most of his matches that have gone deep into the third set, especially against Etcheverry in Halle and Hales in Dubai.

Alexander Zverev against Brandon Nakashima, 6-4, 5-4 (turned off)

Alexander Zverev was prepared to reach the fourth round and led Brandon Nakashima 6-4, 5-4, when lightning and heavy rain stopped games at 21:03

Master 2021, up a set and a break, will resume Wednesday to earn the match, and if he serves as he did on Tuesday, it should be a formality when he won 80% of the point behind his first delivery. Khachanov is waiting for the winner.

Karen Khachanov Def. Jenson Brooksby, 6-3, 6-3

Karen Khachanov pushed past American Jenson Brooksby 6-3, 6-3 in 80 minutes. Russian, fresh of a Toronto final, overwhelmed Brooksby with seven aces and 12 pre -winners,

Brooksby is often a tricky customer with its playing style, but Khachanov is Uber Solid, and if you don’t have Dan Evan’s style of play, it’s not easy to worry him.
