Chelsea could break a world record in the UEFA Conference League final

Chelsea have the chance to complete an outstanding sweep of UEFA trophies and close an encouraging season with cutlery on Wednesday, when they take on Real Betis in the UEFA Conference League final.

Blues secured a return to the Champions League Football for the next season with a victory over the weekend and now has the opportunity to claim their first trophy under manager Enzo Maresa. It may not be the most prestigious title in their already packed cabinet, but a great European honor is nothing to take easy.

Chelsea enters the final in Poland as the clear favorite and, if they lift the trophy, will set a remarkably new benchmark in UEFA competitions.

This marks Chelsea’s debut campaign in the UEFA Conference League, and a win in Wrocław would serve them its ninth European title. More important, It would make them the first club in history that won all four of UEFA’s big tournaments.

The West London page has already won the Europa Cup/Champions League (2011–12, 2020–21), UEFA Cup/Europa League (2012–13, 2018–19) and the now suspended UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup (1970–71, 1997–98), twice each. Adding Conference League would complete an unmatched continental collection.

Chelsea has also claimed UEFA Super Cup twiceAlthough that competition – played between the winners of the Champions League and Europa League – is not considered among UEFA’s primary tournaments.

If Chelsea pulls it off, they will be the first team to win all four big UEFA titles – but they may not be the last. As many as 32 clubs, technically still have the chance to complete this performance, although they would have to have won the now-discontored Cup Winners’ Cup.

Several British clubs – for example Everton, Aberdeen, West Ham and Rangers– Is still in violation of this historical sweep. Other longshots include Magdeburg (Germany), Dinamo Tbilisi (Georgia), Kv Mechelen (Belgium) and Slovan Bratislava (Slovakia).

Meanwhile only four other big clubs –Manchester United, Juventus, Ajax and Bayern Munich – only need conference title to join this elite group. Still, given their status, no one is likely to target the third level European competition at any time soon.
