In a powerful evidence of the music’s healing potential and the growing effect of celebrity-led philanthropy, BTS member Suck Has donated $ 5 billion won (approximately $ 3.62 million) to establish a treatment center for children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) in South Korea. The donation, which is done in collaboration with Seoul’s Severrance Hospital, stands as one of the most important individual celebrity contributions to children’s mental care in the country.
“My Yoon-Gi Treatment Center”, named after Suga’s birth name, held its official groundbreaking ceremony earlier this week. The situation to open in September 2025 will offer a comprehensive range of therapeutic services – including language, psychological and behavioral treatments – especially adapted for young patients with autism. What separates the center is its groundbreaking integration of music in therapy, a method developed over the past seven months of suck and Dr. Cheon Keun-ah, a leading pediatric psychiatrist at Severance Hospital.
Hospital officials praised Suga’s active involvement in the project and emphasized that his contribution extended far beyond monetary support. Since November last year, the artist has worked closely with Dr. Cheon to develop the “Mind” abbreviation for music, interaction, network and diversity a new therapy model that utilizes musical elements to improve communication and social interaction in children with ASD.
During his compulsory military service, which he completed on June 21, served suck in the social welfare sector and used his time to voluntarily at the hospital. From March to early June, he regularly visited the facility on the weekends, conducted music sessions with children – often played guitar and leading rhythm exercises to help them express themselves and get in touch with others. Medical staff involved in the program noted noticeable progress in the children’s emotional and social responsiveness over time.
Given the experience and his motivation for the initiative, “I realized that music can be a powerful way of expressing feelings and communicating with the world. It made me happy to be part of the treatment process for children with autism. I will continue to work so that more children can live as members of society.”
The announcement of Suga’s donation was met with a ruling of public support. Within just 24 hours after the news has announced, fans around the world – known as BTS Army – to collect another 200 million won (about $ 145,000) in support of the center. Severance Hospital confirmed the increase in donations after adding a dedicated option for “My Yoon-Gi treatment center” on its official website. The answer was so overwhelming that the hospital has since made the donation side a permanent fixture and is now working to enable global contributions through international transfers.
Suga’s initiative is hailed as a landmark example of how artists can exploit their influence to promote meaningful, long -term social change. By advocating children’s mental health and introducing an innovative therapy model that melts clinical care with musical expression, the BTS star has not only contributed to building vital infrastructure but also reshaped the public discourse around autism in South Korea.
