Opens to the haunting sound of a wave of cascade piano chords, before being released into a sweeping, synth-tip ballad that feels both intimate and antemic Queen Theatricality, but in its heart it is Omar’s voice that carries the song, which switches between fragile honesty and soaring beliefs.
An honest cry for connection
Lyrically, ‘Dying’ Fighting with the suffocating weight of heart damage, the feeling of losing yourself bit by bit. But what may have been a bleak meditation turns into something that strengthens through Omar’s delivery. His song – smooth yet aching with urgent – reflects push and pulls of pain and resistance.
“For me, this song is about letting go and just singing directly from the heart,” explains Omar. “It’s simple but massive – like when you can’t hold back everything you know anymore. It carries both pride and vulnerability, and that’s what makes it so right. The first time I heard it, I knew I had to release it because it reflects so much of what I personally went through.”
The singles accompanying video, directed by Damon Baker (Taylor Swift, Miley Cyrus, Zendaya, MGK) Helps to reinforce this feeling and cruelty. A moody, visually arresting short film in its own right, it captures Omar in strong, vulnerable moments, almost suspended between falling and rising.
