The wait is over! Queen of pop Olivia Rodrigo have announced their new album you seem quite sad for a girl who is so in love.
The album is released via Geffen Records and will be available worldwide on June 12. Olivia took to and said: “I’m so proud of this record and I can’t wait for you to hear it.” Alongside this message, she has removed all of her previous posts, leaving only the album cover, which shows her in a pink dress on a swing. This is a departure from her previous album artwork, which was very purple-heavy.
The news of OR3 comes after weeks of speculation thanks to Olivia’s creative launch, with fans eagerly trying to figure out what the new record would be called. A purple mural was seen in Los Angeles that featured a giant “OR” logo, which was gradually repainted to a light pink color, marking the beginning of a new era.
“OR” was also later replaced with the word “love”. With her previous records called SOUR and INTESTINESfrom the beginning, fans were under the impression that this album would follow suit and be named after a four-letter word like love. However, a voice message on Olivia’s SOUR the hotline later said “The writing is on the wall, but the initial message may not paint the full picture.”
Now we finally know the name of Olivia’s long-awaited third album you seem quite sad for a girl who is so in love. Further details on the album are few and far between at the moment, with a lead single and tracklist yet to be announced. What we do know, however, is that the album was produced by Dan Nigro, who also worked with Olivia on SOUR and INTESTINES.
In March, Olivia told British Vogue that the album is full of “boring love songs”. She also added that it was “a creative challenge to write from a happy place. When you feel connected to someone, or feel really good, you don’t think of bittersweet poems in your head.”
you seem quite sad for a girl who is so in love marks Olivia’s third record, following the huge success of SOUR and INTESTINES. Her debut album SOUR catapulted her to global success and has the number one singles ‘driver’s license’ and ‘good 4 u’. The album broke the global Spotify record for the biggest opening week for an album by a female artist and topped the charts in several countries, including the US and the UK. She also won three GRAMMY Awards during this era, including Best New Artist.
Her follow-up INTESTINES showed the growth and maturity of the young singer-songwriter and was led by the hit singles “Vampire” and “Bad Idea right?”. Once again, the album topped the charts worldwide and led to Olivia receiving six nominations at the 2024 Grammy Awards. She later toured the album worldwide, grossing over $209 million from 101 shows. The concert film is also available to watch on Netflix.
