World No. 1 handled the electric atmosphere and raucous Brazilian support with composure in their first meeting.

Alcaraz saved all break points, dominated with her first serve (80% points won) and controlled the court with speed and defense.

He delivered a crisp serving masterclass (98% first-serve points won, both break points saved). Definitely one of his best performances in recent memory, he advances to face Arthur Fils (who beat Darwin Blanch 6-2, 6-3).

Ethan Quinn def. Casper Ruud (11) 6-4, 7-6(7)

Another upset here for Quinn, fresh from defeating Hubert Hurkacz in R1 and a Challenger title in Phoenix, he saved seven set points in the second set tiebreak to defeat former finalist Casper Ruud. He outplayed the Norwegian and converted every break chance in a 1-hour-52-minute fight. This marks his first Masters 1000 third round and Ruud’s ranking drops which doesn’t help his place in the draw on his preferred clay.

Reilly Opelka def. Jack Draper (25) 7-6(3), 7-6(0)

Opelka’s massive serve (25+ aces in previous rounds) shined again in two tight tiebreaks. He credited new coach Craig Boynton (ex-Isner/Hurkacz) with technical adjustments that have enhanced his movement and return game. Opelka averages 25.4 aces per game in 2026, hard to find a way through when the surface works in his favor.
