Miami Open 2026 Day 2 Recap - The Player Lounge

After day one was a washout due to rain, day two of the Miami Open felt more like a one-week Masters 1000 with a packed schedule of 24 men’s matches.

With seeded players still waiting in the wings, the 128 round provided center stage for qualifiers, wild cards and rising stars, and they didn’t waste the opportunity.

The day had plenty to talk about, from João Fonseca setting up a blockbuster clash with Carlos Alcaraz to upsets like Hubert Hurkacz crashing and Moise Kouame taking his first Masters 1000 win; full list of results, summary and highlights below.

Key matches

João Fonseca def. Fabian Marozsan 6-4, 3-6, 6-2

The 19-year-old Brazilian fought back after dropping the second set, firing 12 aces and winning 75% of first-serve points. He set up a blockbuster second-round match with World No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz (their first meeting). Fonseca called it “a super experience” and expressed enthusiasm to face top players like Alcaraz (having recently pushed Jannik Sinner in Indian Wells). This was a big win in front of raucous Brazilian fans.

Ethan Quinn def. Hubert Hurkacz 6-2, 6-4

The American knocked out the 2021 Miami champion and a higher-ranked player in straight sets. I have no idea about Hubi, as he looked decent in the United Cup, but he hasn’t won a game since then.

Raphael Collignon def. Grigor Dimitrov 7-6(3), 4-6, 7-6(6)

Collignon saved a match point in the deciding tiebreak (at 5/6) with a clutch forehand after an 11-ball rally. Dimitrov couldn’t convert despite several volleys, and as he defended semi-final points, his ranking will take a hit, soon outside the top 80.

Moise Kouame (WC) def. Zachary Svajda (Q) 5-7, 6-4, 6-4

The 17-year-old French wildcard became the first player born in 2009 or later to win an ATP Tour match, and the youngest Miami winner (as well as the youngest ATP Masters 1000 winner since Rafael Nadal in Hamburg 2003). He saved 10/12 break points in a 2-hour-17-minute fight. Next: against 21st seed Jiri Lehecka.

Darwin Blanch (WC) def. Jan-Lennard Struff 6-3, 3-6, 6-3

The 18-year-old American became the youngest American player to win a Masters 1000 match since Taylor Fritz a decade ago. Blanch was a wild card here a couple of years ago, an unjustified one most would agree, but he has a lot more experience now.

Martin Landaluce (Q) def. Marcos Girón 6-3, 7-6(6)

Composed win for the young Spaniard (who reached the Next Generation final last year), marking his first tour-level victory in 2026.

Rafael Jodar (Q) def. Yannick Hanfmann (Q) 6-4, 4-6, 6-1

Milestone: First Masters 1000 win for the 19-year-old Spaniard (outside the Top 900 before the tournament, now ~No. 93 live). With Lorenzo Musetti’s withdrawal, his path was opened (next: lucky loser Aleksandar Vukic).
