Vasean Allett’s double-double helps TCU Outlast West Virginia

Vasean Allette noted his second career double-double and TCU resisted a late rally to beat the visit West Virginia 65-60 on Wednesday in Fort Worth, Texas.

Allette contributed 22 points, 11 returns and five assists when Horned Frogs (12-10, 5-6 Big 12) won his other straight and beat the rock climbers during the fourth straight time.

Noah Reynolds added 20 points for TCU, which was beaten with 12 points late in the first half before building an 11-point lead after the break. Horned Frogs then advised after letting visitors bind the game twice during the last four minutes.

Big 12-point leader Javon Small (19.0 ppg) led the late surge for West Virginia (14-8, 5-6), and scored 10 of its 20 points in the final 6:34.

Joseph Yesufu added 11 points and other reserve Eduardo Andre ended with 10 on 5-5 shooting.

TCU went on a 22-4 driving that bridged the halves to turn the 12-point deficit into a six-point lead.

When Allette made a steal and sprinted for an interruption sludge, he gave TCU his biggest lead, 54-43, with 7:56 left before the little one led West Virginia comeback.

Small got the last eight points in a 10-0 run that lowered the deficit to one, and the rock climbers later pulled at 56 at Powell’s 3-pointer with 3:53 to go.

During the last nine seconds, Allette made a setback and hit a couple of free throw to sew up TCU’s victory.

West Virginia dominated the opening six minutes with its defense. During a 10-point driving, the mountain climbes forced five sales and seven straight missed shots.

Harris burned the spray with two baskets when the rock climbers took a lead of 10-2.

Two 3-points halfway through half and a sludge of Toby Okani gave West Virginia its biggest lead of Halvan, 25-13.

But during the last six minutes of the period, Reynolds and Allette made two baskets each and Micah Robinson dropped a 3-pointer when the horned frogs testified the deficit to 29-28 at the break.

Allette added two more baskets when TCU scored the first seven points in the second half to take a lead of 35-29.

Reynolds then took over and scored nine points in a span 2:06 to help the horned frogs stretch their advantage to 46-36.
