Star-studded cast announced for new West End musical Sea Witch

New musical Sea witch will make its world premiere in London’s West End in March, with two limited concert performances at the Theater Royal Drury Lane.

Sea witch recreates the origins of one of the sea’s most feared villains. A prequel inspired by The Little Mermaidthe new musical follows Evie, a witch who survives in a world where magic is forbidden. When her fate collides with Annemette, a mermaid with a secret of her own, both are driven toward a reckoning that will reshape their futures forever.

Natalie May Paris, best known for originating the role of Jane Seymour in Sex the Musical will take on the role of Evie. She will be joined by The musical Mamma Mia royalty Mazz Murray as Queen Charlotte and Drag Race star Michelle Visage as Aunt Hansa. The cast is completed by Jay McGuiness (&Juliet) as Iker, Amy Di Bartolomeo (The Devil Wears Prada the Musical) as Annemette and Natalie Kassanga (Moulin Rouge) like Malvina.

Created by Kristopher Russell and Michael David Glover, the musical is based on Sarah Henning’s novel of the same name (adapted with permission from HarperCollins Publishers), and features music and lyrics by Segun Fawole and a book by Glover. Choreography is by Dean Lee, with music production by Jeff Nang.

A first listen from the musical has also been revealed via WhatsonStage, with Natalie performing ‘Tidal Wave’.

Speaking about the new musical, director and co-creator Kristopher Russell said, With Sea Witchwe are not just staging a story, we are creating a new blueprint for musical theatre. Every visual, every beat, every emotional moment is created to push the genre forward. This is a show that will influence the way musicals are made for years to come. Jay, a self-confessed fantasy enthusiast who recently released Poison Tides, the sequel to his own fantasy novel blood flowers, concluded: “It’s really exciting to work on something new, and especially a fantastic fantasy novel brought to life on stage – I can’t wait to get into the rehearsal room and see what the team brings to life.”
